I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the day of Hunayn asking about the whereabouts of Khalid, so they brought a drunken man. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered those who were with him to strike him with what was in their hands, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ threw dust on him. When Abu Bakr was brought a drunken man was brought, he refrained from striking him as he had been struck that day, so he only struck him forty times.
