Sunan an-Nasa'i al-Kubra 6287

Muḥammad b. ʿAbd al-Aʿlá al-Ṣanʿānī > Khālid / Ibn al-Ḥārith > Shuʿbah > Muḥammad b. al-Munkadir > Jābir

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to frequently perform ablution without any clear reason, so he poured water from his ablution onto me. Then he became conscious and I asked him if it meant that he was bequeathing me some inheritance. So, the verse of obligatory bequest was revealed.

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَى الصَّنْعَانِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ الْحَارِثِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُنْكَدِرِ عَنْ جَابِرٍ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ عَادَهُ وَهُوَ لَا يَعْقِلُ فَتَوَضَّأَ فَصَبَّ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ وَضُوئِهِ فَعَقَلَ قُلْتُ يَرِثُنِي كَلَالَةٌ فَكَيْفَ الْمِيرَاثُ؟ فَأُنْزِلَ آيَةُ الْفَرْضِ
