Yūnus b. ʿAbd al-Aʿlá > Ibn Wahb > Ḥuyay b. ʿAbdullāh > Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥman al-Ḥubullī > ʿAbdullāh b. ʿAmr b. al-ʿĀṣ

A man died in the city where he was born, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ offered the funeral prayer for him. The Messenger ﷺ said, "I wish he had died in a place other than his birthplace." They asked, "Why, O Messenger of Allah?" He replied, "When a person dies in a place other than his birthplace, it is as if he has traveled from his birthplace to the point where his footprints end in Paradise." Abu Abdur-Rahman Huwayy ibn Abdullah said to us, "He is not a reliable narrator for us, and this hadith is not well-preserved. Allah knows best. For the authentic narration from the Prophet ﷺ is, 'Whoever among you is able to die in Madinah, then I will intercede for him.'"
