ذِكْرُ الِاخْتِلَافِ عَلَى أَبِي حَيَّانَ فِي حَدِيثِ جَرِيرٍ «لَا يُؤْوِي الضَّالَّةَ إِلَّا ضَالٌّ»

al-Ḥusayn b. Manṣūr > Ibrāhīm b. ʿUyaynah > Abū Ḥayyān > Abū Zurʿah b. ʿAmr b. Jarīr > al-Mundhir b. Jarīr

We were with Jarir by the pastures when a cow went astray. He saw a cow in it that he disapproved of, so he ordered it to be driven away. Then he said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, 'Only the stray will shelter the stray.'"

أَخْبَرَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو حَيَّانَ عَنْ أَبِي زُرْعَةَ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ جَرِيرٍ عَنِ الْمُنْذِرِ بْنِ جَرِيرٍ قَالَ

كُنَّا مَعَ جَرِيرٍ بِالْبَوَازِيجِ فَرَاحَتِ الْبَقَرُ فَرَأَى فِيهَا بَقَرَةً أَنْكَرَهَا فَأَمَرَ بِطَرْدِهَا ثُمَّ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «لَا يُؤْوِي الضَّالَّةَ إِلَّا ضَالٌّ»

أَخْبَرَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى عَنْ أَبِي حَيَّانَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الضَّحَّاكُ بْنُ الْمُنْذِرِ عَنِ الْمُنْذِرِ بْنِ جَرِيرٍ قَالَ كُنْتُ مَعَ أَبِي قَالَ

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «لَا يُؤْوِي الضَّالَّةَ إِلَّا ضَالٌّ»

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ «لَا يُؤْوِي الضَّالَّةَ وَلَا يَأْخُذُهَا إِلَّا ضَالٌّ»

A man asked the Prophet SAW about a lost camel. He said, "What is the matter with you and the camel's supplies and shoes? Leave it to eat from the trees and return to the water until its owner comes." He was asked about a lost sheep, and he said, "It is yours or your brother's or the wolf's."

أَخْبَرَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحِيمِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَسَدُ بْنُ مُوسَى قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ وَرَبِيعَةُ عَنْ يَزِيدَ مَوْلَى الْمُنْبَعِثِ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ

أَنَّ رَجُلًا سَأَلَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ عَنْ ضَالَّةِ الْإِبِلِ فَقَالَ «مَا لَكَ وَلَهَا مَعَهَا سِقَاؤُهَا وَحِذَاؤُهَا دَعْهَا تَأْكُلُ مِنَ الشَّجَرِ وَتَرِدُ عَلَى الْمَاءِ حَتَّى يَأْتِيَهَا بَاغِيهَا» وَسُئِلَ عَنْ ضَالَّةِ الْغَنَمِ قَالَ «هِيَ لَكَ أَوْ لِأَخِيكَ أَوْ لِلذِّئْبِ»

He turned red, and he said: “What does it have to do with you? It has its feet and its water supply, it can go and drink water and eat from the trees until its owner finds it.” And he was asked about lost sheep, and he said: “Take it, for it will be for you or for your brother or for the wolf.” And he was asked about lost property and he said: “Remember the features of its leather bag and strap, and announce it for one year, then if someone claims it, describing it to you with those features (give it to him), otherwise incorporate it into your own wealth.”

أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ رَبِيعَةَ عَنْ يَزِيدَ مَوْلَى الْمُنْبَعِثِ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ سُئِلَ عَنْ ضَالَّةِ الْإِبِلِ فَغَضِبَ حَتَّى احْمَارَّتْ وَجْنَتَاهُ فَقَالَ «مَا لَكَ وَلَهَا مَعَهَا الْحِذَاءُ وَالسِّقَاءُ تَرِدُ الْمَاءَ وَتَأْكُلُ الشَّجَرَ حَتَّى يَلْقَاهَا رَبُّهَا» وَسُئِلَ عَنْ ضَالَّةِ الْغَنَمِ فَقَالَ «خُذْهَا فَإِنَّمَا هِيَ لَكَ أَوْ لِأَخِيكَ أَوْ لِلذِّئْبِ»

So, he became angry and said, "What is it to you and it has its own shoes and water container? Leave it until its owner finds it."

أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ عَنْ رَبِيعَةَ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ يَزِيدَ مَوْلَى الْمُنْبَعِثِ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ أَنَّ رَجُلًا قَالَ

يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ضَالَّةُ الْغَنَمِ قَالَ «خُذْهَا فَإِنَّمَا هِيَ لَكَ أَوْ لِأَخِيكَ أَوْ لِلذِّئْبِ» قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ فَضَالَّةُ الْإِبِلِ؟ فَغَضِبَ فَقَالَ «مَا لَكَ وَلَهَا مَعَهَا حِذَاؤُهَا وَسِقَاؤُهَا دَعْهَا حَتَّى يَلْقَاهَا رَبُّهَا»
