It was narrated from Abu Shaikh that he heard Mu'awiyah say,:

When a group of the Companions of Muhammad ﷺ were with him: "Do you know that the Prophet of Allah ﷺ forbade wearing gold unless it was broken (into smaller pieces)?" They said: "By Allah, yes."

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ، عَنْ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي شَيْخٍ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ مُعَاوِيَةَ، وَعِنْدَهُ، جَمْعٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ مُحَمَّدٍ ﷺ قَالَ أَتَعْلَمُونَ أَنَّ نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ ﷺ نَهَى عَنْ لُبْسِ الذَّهَبِ إِلاَّ مُقَطَّعًا قَالُوا اللَّهُمَّ نَعَمْ .
