Yahya related to me from Malik from Yahya ibn Said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stimulated people for jihad and mentioned the Garden. One of the Ansar was eating some dates in his hand, and said, "Am I so desirous of this world that I should sit until I finish them?" He threw aside what was in his hand and took his sword, and fought until he was slain .

وَحَدَّثَنِي عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ رَغَّبَ فِي الْجِهَادِ وَذَكَرَ الْجَنَّةَ وَرَجُلٌ مِنَ الأَنْصَارِ يَأْكُلُ تَمَرَاتٍ فِي يَدِهِ فَقَالَ إِنِّي لَحَرِيصُ عَلَى الدُّنْيَا إِنْ جَلَسْتُ حَتَّى أَفْرُغَ مِنْهُنَّ . فَرَمَى مَا فِي يَدِهِ فَحَمَلَ بِسَيْفِهِ فَقَاتَلَ حَتَّى قُتِلَ .
