"They were granted permission to maintain their tribal connections, even though they were polytheists. Thus, the verse was revealed: 'It is not upon you to guide them.' (Quran 2:272) until the verse was revealed: 'Whatever you spend of good, indeed Allah is Knowing of it.' (Quran 2:273) Then, permission was granted to them." This was explained by Al-Dhahabi in summary. – Remains Silent
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أَحْمَدَ الزُّبَيْرِيُّ ثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ إِيَاسٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ كَانُوا يَكْرَهُونَ
