Abū al-Ḥasan Aḥmad b. Muḥammad al-ʿAnazī > ʿUthmān b. Saʿīd al-Dārimī > Maḥbūb b. Mūsá al-Anṭākī > Abū Isḥāq al-Fazārī > al-Awzāʿī > Yaḥyá b. Abū Kathīr > Abū Salamah b. ʿAbd al-Raḥman > ʿAbdullāh b. Salām

"We gathered and discussed which one of us would go to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and ask him about the most beloved actions to Allah. Then we separated, and we decided that one of us would go to him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent a messenger to us and we gathered. He recited to us the verse, 'Glorify Allah, whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth' until the end of the Surah. Abu Salamah recited it to us from the beginning to the end. Yahya ibn Abi Kathir recited it to us from the beginning to the end. Abu Is-haq recited it to us from the beginning to the end, meaning the Surah of As-Saff."

أَخْبَرَنَاهُ أَبُو الْحَسَنِ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْعَنَزِيُّ ثنا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الدَّارِمِيُّ ثنا مَحْبُوبُ بْنُ مُوسَى الْأَنْطَاكِيُّ ثنا أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ الْفَزَارِيُّ عَنِ الْأَوْزَاعِيِّ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو سَلَمَةَ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سَلَامٍ قَالَ

اجْتَمَعْنَا فَتَذَاكَرْنَا أَيُّكُمْ يَأْتِي رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَيَسْأَلُهُ أَيُّ الْأَعْمَالِ أَحَبُّ إِلَى اللَّهِ؟ ثُمَّ تَفَرَّقْنَا وَهِبْنَا أَنْ يَأْتِيَهُ أَحَدٌ فَأَرْسَلَ إِلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَجَمَعَنَا فَجَعَلَ يُومِي بَعْضُنَا إِلَى بَعْضٍ «فَقَرَأَ عَلَيْنَا {سَبَّحَ لِلَّهِ مَا فِي السَّمَوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الْأَرْضِ} » إِلَى أخِرِ السُّورَةِ قَالَ أَبُو سَلَمَةَ فَقَرَأَهَا عَلَيْنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سَلَامٍ إِلَى آخِرِهَا قَالَ يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ وَقَرَأَهَا عَلَيْنَا أَبُو سَلَمَةَ مِنْ أَوَّلِهَا إِلَى آخِرِهَا قَالَ مَحْبُوبٌ وَقَرَأَهَا عَلَيْنَا أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ مِنْ أَوَّلِهَا إِلَى آخِرِهَا يَعْنِي سُورَةَ الصَّفِ
