Sahl b. Ḥammād > Shuʿbah > Simāk > ʿAlqamah b. Wāʾil > Abīh Wāʾil

Suwaibid bin Tarik asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about alcohol, and he prohibited him from making it. He said, "Indeed, it is a medicine." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said, "Verily, it is not a medicine, but it is a disease." – Strong Chain

أَخْبَرَنَا سَهْلُ بْنُ حَمَّادٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ حَدَّثَنَا سِمَاكٌ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَلْقَمَةَ بْنَ وَائِلٍ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ أَبِيهِ وَائِلٍ

أَنَّ سُوَيْدَ بْنَ طَارِقٍ سَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَنِ الْخَمْرِ فَنَهَاهُ عَنْهَا أَنْ يَصْنَعَهَا فَقَالَ إِنَّهَا دَوَاءٌ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «إِنَّهَا لَيْسَتْ دَوَاءً وَلَكِنَّهَا دَاءٌ» – إسناده قوي
