The Statement of Allah (The Most High): "... And remember Our slave Dawud, endued with power..."
بَابُ: {وَاذْكُرْ عَبْدَنَا دَاوُدَ ذَا الأَيْدِ إِنَّهُ أَوَّابٌ} إِلَى قَوْلِهِ: {وَفَصْلَ الْخِطَابِ}
Sahih al-Bukhari, Book of Prophets(view book)
{وَلاَ تُشْطِطْ} لاَ تُسْرِفْ {وَاهْدِنَا إِلَى سَوَاءِ الصِّرَاطِ إِنَّ هَذَا أَخِي لَهُ تِسْعٌ وَتِسْعُونَ نَعْجَةً} يُقَالُ لِلْمَرْأَةِ نَعْجَةٌ، وَيُقَالُ لَهَا أَيْضًا شَاةٌ، {وَلِي نَعْجَةٌ وَاحِدَةٌ فَقَالَ أَكْفِلْنِيهَا} مِثْلُ: {وَكَفَلَهَا زَكَرِيَّاءُ} ضَمَّهَا {وَعَزَّنِي} غَلَبَنِي، صَارَ أَعَزَّ مِنِّي، أَعْزَزْتُهُ جَعَلْتُهُ عَزِيزًا.
{فِي الْخِطَابِ} يُقَالُ الْمُحَاوَرَةُ.
{قَالَ لَقَدْ ظَلَمَكَ بِسُؤَالِ نَعْجَتِكَ إِلَى نِعَاجِهِ وَإِنَّ كَثِيرًا مِنَ الْخُلَطَاءِ} الشُّرَكَاءِ {لَيَبْغِي} إِلَى قَوْلِهِ: {أَنَّمَا فَتَنَّاهُ}. قَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ اخْتَبَرْنَاهُ. وَقَرَأَ عُمَرُ فَتَّنَّاهُ بِتَشْدِيدِ التَّاءِ {فَاسْتَغْفَرَ رَبَّهُ وَخَرَّ رَاكِعًا وَأَنَابَ}.
Narrated Mujahid:
I asked Ibn 'Abbas, "Should we perform a prostration on reciting Surat-Sad?" He recited (the Sura) including: 'And among his progeny, David, Solomon..(up to)...so follow their guidance (6.84-91) And then he said, "Your Prophet is amongst those people who have been ordered to follow them (i.e. the preceding apostles).
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ، حَدَّثَنَا سَهْلُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ الْعَوَّامَ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ، قَالَ قُلْتُ لاِبْنِ عَبَّاسٍ أَسْجُدُ فِي {ص} فَقَرَأَ {وَمِنْ ذُرِّيَّتِهِ دَاوُدَ وَسُلَيْمَانَ} حَتَّى أَتَى {فَبِهُدَاهُمُ اقْتَدِهْ} فَقَالَ نَبِيُّكُمْ ﷺ مِمَّنْ أُمِرَ أَنْ يَقْتَدِيَ بِهِمْ.
Classification
Narrated Ibn Abbas:
The prostration in Sura-Sad is not amongst the compulsory prostrations, though I saw the Prophet prostrating on reciting The Statement of Allah:--and to David We gave Solomon (for a son). How excellent (a) slave he was ever oft-returning in repentance (to us) (38.30) And His Statement:-- He said: My Lord Forgive me and grant me a kingdom such as shall not belong to any other after me.' (38.35) And His Statement:-- 'And they followed what the Devils gave out (falsely), of magic in the life-time of Solomon.' (2.102)
حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، حَدَّثَنَا وُهَيْبٌ، حَدَّثَنَا أَيُّوبُ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ـ رضى الله عنهما ـ قَالَ لَيْسَ {ص} مِنْ عَزَائِمِ السُّجُودِ، وَرَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يَسْجُدُ فِيهَا.
