Regarding The Permission For Returning From The Battle After It Had Been Prohibited

Ibn ‘Abbas said “The verse “Those who believe in Allah and the Last Day ask thee for no exemption from fighting with their goods and persons” was abrogated by the verse “Only those are believers who believe in Allah and His Apostle....For Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.”

حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ الْمَرْوَزِيُّ، حَدَّثَنِي عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُسَيْنٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ النَّحْوِيِّ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ { لاَ يَسْتَأْذِنُكَ الَّذِينَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الآخِرِ } الآيَةَ نَسَخَتْهَا الَّتِي فِي النُّورِ { إِنَّمَا الْمُؤْمِنُونَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا بِاللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ } إِلَى قَوْلِهِ { غَفُورٌ رَحِيمٌ } .
