He informed him that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was sitting on a wall in the city, leaning his feet towards the well. Abu Bakr knocked on the door and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ told him to let him in and give him glad tidings of Paradise. So he did, and Abu Bakr entered and leaned his feet. Then Umar knocked on the door and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ told him to let him in and give him glad tidings of Paradise. So he did. Then Uthman knocked on the door and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ told him to let him in and give him glad tidings of Paradise, and that he will face a trial.

أَخْبَرَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ سَعْدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ سَعْدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَمِّي قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا أَبِي عَنْ صَالِحٍ عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ أَنَّ أَبَا سَلَمَةَ بْنَ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ نَافِعِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْحَارِثِ الْخُزَاعِيَّ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ أَبَا مُوسَى الْأَشْعَرِيَّ

أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ فِي حَائِطٍ بِالْمَدِينَةِ عَلَى قُفِّ الْبِئْرِ مُدَلِّيًا رِجْلَيْهِ فَدَقَّ الْبَابَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «ائْذَنْ لَهُ وَبَشِّرْهُ بِالْجَنَّةِ» فَفَعَلَ فَدَخَلَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ فَدَلَّى رِجْلَيْهِ ثُمَّ دَقَّ الْبَابَ عُمَرُ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «ائْذَنْ لَهُ وَبَشِّرْهُ بِالْجَنَّةِ» فَفَعَلَ ثَمَّ دَقَّ الْبَابَ عُثْمَانُ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «ائْذَنْ لَهُ وَبَشِّرْهُ بِالْجَنَّةِ وَسَيَلْقَى بَلَاءً»
