Muḥammad b. Rāfiʿ > ʿAbd al-Razzāq > Maʿmar > Ibn Ṭāwus from his father > Ibn ʿAbbās

"I heard Ibn 'Abbas saying: 'We used to memorize Ahadith, and Ahadith were memorized from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. But if you go to the extremes of either exaggeration or negligence (in narrating Ahadith), there is no way we can trust your Ahadith.'"

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ رَافِعٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا مَعْمَرٌ عَنِ ابْنِ طَاوُسٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ «§كُنَّا نَحْفَظُ الْحَدِيثَ وَالْحَدِيثُ يُحْفَظُ

عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَأَمَّا إِذَا رَكِبْتُمْ كُلَّ صَعْبٍ وَذَلُولٍ فَهَيْهَاتَ»
