كِتَابُ الْمَوَاعِظِ
ʿUbaydullāh b. Saʿīd > Yaḥyá b. Saʿīd > Sulaymān al-Taymī > Abū ʿUthmān > Usāmah b. Zayd
The Prophet ﷺ said, "I stood at the gate of Paradise and saw that the majority of the people who entered it were the poor, while the wealthy were stopped at the gate (for the accounts). But the companions of the Fire were ordered to be taken to the Fire. Then I stood at the gate of the Fire and saw that the majority of those who entered it were women."
عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ التَّيْمِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ عَنْ أُسَامَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ
عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ «قُمْتُ عَلَى بَابِ الْجَنَّةِ فَإِذَا عَامَّةُ مَنْ يَدْخُلُهَا الْفُقَرَاءُ إِلَّا أَنَّ أَصْحَابَ الْجَدِّ مَحْبُوسُونَ إِلَّا أَهْلَ النَّارِ فَقَدْ أُمِرَ بِهِمْ إِلَى النَّارِ وَوَقَفْتُ عَلَى بَابِ النَّارِ فَإِذَا عَامَّةُ مَنْ دَخَلَهَا النِّسَاءُ»

Recite the Qur'an as long as your hearts agree to do so, and when you feel variance between them (between your hearts and tongues), then get up (and leave its recital for the time being).
عَنْ عَمْرو بْنِ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ مَهْدِيٍّ عَنْ سَلَّامِ بْنِ أَبِي مُطِيعٍ عَنْ أَبِي عِمْرَانَ الْجَوْنِيِّ عَنْ جُنْدُبٍ قَالَ
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «اقْرَءُوا الْقُرْآنَ مَا ائْتَلَفَتْ عَلَيْهِ قُلُوبُكُمْ فَإِذَا اخْتَلَفْتُمْ عَلَيْهِ فَقُومُوا»

I migrated to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ one day and heard two men disagreeing about a verse from the Book of Allah. He went out while anger could be seen on his face and said, "Indeed, those who came before you were destroyed because of their disagreements about the Book."
عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ دَاوُدَ بْنِ مُعَاذٍ عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ عَنْ أَبِي عِمْرَانَ الْجَوْنِيِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ رَبَاحٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو قَالَ
هَجَّرْتُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ فَسَمِعَ رَجُلَيْنِ يَخْتَلِفَانِ فِي آيَةٍ مِنْ كِتَابِ اللهِ فَخَرَجَ وَالْغَضَبُ يُعْرَفُ فِي وَجْهِهِ فَقَالَ «إِنَّمَا هَلَكَ مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ بِاخْتِلَافِهِمْ فِي الْكِتَابِ»

"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ had dispatched Abu 'Ubaidah bin Al-Jarrah, so he arrived with the wealth from Al-Bahrain. When the Ansar had heard of the arrival of Abu 'Ubaidah they were attending Salat Al-Fajr. So the the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed the Salat and when he finished, they assembled before him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ smiled when he saw them, then he said: 'I think that you heard that Abu 'Ubaidah has arrived with something?' They said: 'Yes O Messenger of Allah! 'He said: 'Then receive good news, and hope for what will please you. By Allah! It is not poverty that I fear for you, but what I fear for you is that the world will be presented for you just as it was presented for those before you,then you will compete for it, just as they competed for it, and it will destroy you, just as it destroyed them.'
عَنْ سُوَيْدِ بْنِ نَصْرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ الْمُبَارَكِ عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ وَيُونُسَ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عُرْوَةَ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ عَنِ الْمِسْوَرِ بْنِ مَخْرَمَةَ عَنْ عَمْرو بْنِ عَوْفٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ
أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ بَعَثَ أَبَا عُبَيْدَةَ بْنِ الْجَرَّاحِ فَقَدِمَ بِمَالٍ مِنَ الْبَحْرَيْنِ وَسَمِعْتُ الْأَنْصَارََََُ بِقُدُومِ أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ فَوَافَوْا صَلَاةَ الْفَجْرِ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَلَمَّا صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ انْصَرَفَ فَتَعَرَّضُوا لَهُ فَتَبَسَّمَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ حِينَ رَآهُمْ ثُمَّ قَالَ «أَظُنُّكُمْ سَمِعْتُمْ أَنَّ أَبَا عُبَيْدَةَ قَدِمَ بِشَيْءٍ؟» قَالَوا أَجَلْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَالَ «فَأَبْشِرُوا وَأَمِّلُوا مَا يَسُرُّكُمْ فَوَاللهِ مَا الْفَقْرَ أَخْشَى عَلَيْكُمْ وَلَكِنِّي أَخْشَى أَنْ تُبْسَطَ الدُّنْيَا عَلَيْكُمْ كَمَا بُسِطَتْ عَلَى مَنْ قَبْلَكُم فَتَنَافَسُوهَا كَمَا تَنَافَسُوهَا فَتُهْلِكَكُمْ كَمَا أَهْلَكَتْهُمْ»

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to a man while advising him, "Take advantage of five things before five: your youth before old age, your health before illness, your wealth before poverty, your free time before being occupied, and your life before death."
عَنْ سُوَيْدِ بْنِ نَصْرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْمُبَارَكِ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ بُرْقَانَ عَنْ زِيَادِ بْنِ الْجَرَّاحِ عَنْ عَمْرو بْنٍِ مَيْمُونٍ قَالَ
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لِرَجُلٍ وَهُوَ يَعِظُهُ اغْتَنِمْ خَمْسًا قَبْلَ خَمْسٍ شَبَابَكَ قَبْلَ هَرَمِكَ وَصِحَّتَكَ قَبْلَ سَقَمِكَ وَغِنَاكَ قَبْلَ فَقْرِكَ وَفَرَاغَكَ قَبْلَ شُغْلِكَ وَحَيَاتِكَ قَبْلَ مَوْتِكَ

A man from the people of Mecca said to me, "This is the dwelling place of your brother Tameem Ad-Daari. I saw him one night until the morning, either reciting a verse from the book of Allah while bowing, prostrating, and crying, or worried about the morning scene (i.e., the Day of Judgement), reciting the verse, 'Or do those who commit evil deeds think We will make them like those who have believed and done righteous deeds - [make them] equal in their life and their death? Evil is that which they judge.' [Al-Jathiyah 21]."
عَنْ سُوَيْدِ بْنِ نَصْرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْمُبَارَكِ عَنْ شُعْبَةَ عَنْ عَمْرو بْنِ مُرَّةَ عَنْ أَبِي الضُّحَى عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ قَالَ
قَالَ لِي رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ مَكَّةَ هَذَا مَقَامُ أَخِيكِ تَمِيمٍ الدَّارِيِّ لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُهُ ذَاتَ لَيْلَةٍ حَتَّى أَصْبَحَ أَوْ كَرَبَ أَنْ يُصْبِحَ يَقْرَأُ آيَةً مِنْ كِتَابِ اللهِ يَرْكَعُ وَيَسْجُدُ وَيَبْكِي {أَمْ حَسِبَ الَّذِينَ اجْتَرَحُوا السَّيِّئَاتِ } [الجاثية 21] الْآيَةَ

I heard Zubayr ibn al-Awwam saying: Whoever is able to have a hidden righteous deed, let him do so.
عَنْ سُوَيْدِ بْنِ نَصْرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْمُبَارَكِ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ أَبِي حَازِمٍ قَالَ
سَمِعْتُ الزُّبَيْرَ بْنَ الْعَوَّامِ يَقُولُ: مَنِ اسْتَطَاعَ أَنْ يَكُونَ لَهُ خَبِيٌّ مِنْ عَمِلٍ صَالِحٍ فَلْيَفْعَلْ

"If a person is in a desert, he should perform ablution (wudu). If he cannot find water, he should perform tayammum (dry ablution), then call the prayer, then establish it, then pray it, except for an army or group from the soldiers of Allah who should pray while standing." Abdullah said: Sufyan mentioned to me that Dawud mentioned to him from Abu Uthman from Salman, "They perform sujud (prostration) and ruku (bowing), and they have faith in their supplications."
عَنْ سُوَيْدِ بْنِ نَصْرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْمُبَارَكِ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ التَّيْمِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ النَّهْدِيِّ عَنْ سَلْمَانَ الْفَارِسِيِّ قَالَ
«إِذَا كَانَ الرَّجُلُ فِي أَرْضِ قِيٍّ فَتَوَضَّأَ فَإِنْ لَمْ يَجِدِ الْمَاءَ تَيَمَّمَ ثُمَّ يُنَادِي بِالصَّلَاةِ ثُمَّ يُقِيمُهَا ثُمَّ يُصَلِّيهَا إِلَّا أُمَّ مِنْ جُنُودِ اللهِ صَفًّا» قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ وَزَادَنِي سُفْيَانُ عَنْ دَاوُدَ عَنِ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ عَنْ سَلْمَانَ يَرْكَعُونَ بِرُكُوعِهِ وَيَسْجُدُونَ بِسُجُودِهِ وَيُؤْمِنُونَ عَلَى دُعَائِهِ

"I have come to know that I am bound for the fire, but I do not know if I am an inmate of it or not."
عَنْ سُوَيْدِ بْنِ نَصْرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْمُبَارَكِ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ عَنْ قَيْسٍ قَالَ بَكَى ابْنُ رَوَاحَةَ فَبَكَتِ امْرَأَتُهُ فَقَالَ لَهَا مَا يُبْكِيكِ؟ قَالَتْ بَكَيْتُ حِينَ رَأَيْتُكَ تَبْكِي فَقَالَ
عَبْدُ اللهِ «إِنِّي قَدْ عَلِمْتُ أَنِّي وَارِدٌ النَّارَ فَلَا أَدْرِي أَنَاجٍ مِنْهَا أُمْ لَا؟»

"So his wife said, 'O Abu Maisarah, indeed Allah has been kind to you by guiding you to Islam.' He said, 'Yes, but Allah has made it clear to us that we are destined for the Hellfire, but He has not made it clear to us that we will be saved from it.'"
عَنْ سُوَيْدِ بْنِ نَصْرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ مِغْوَلٍ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ أَبِي مَيْسَرَةَ أَنَّهُ أَوَى إِلَى فِرَاشِهِ فَقَالَ «يَا لَيْتَ أُمِّي لَمْ تَلِدْنِي»
فَقَالَتِ امْرَأَتُهُ يَا أَبَا مَيْسَرَةَ إِنَّ اللهَ قَدْ أَحْسَنَ إِلَيْكَ هَدَاكَ لِلْإِسْلَامِ قَالَ «أَجَلْ وَلَكِنَّ اللهَ قَدْ بَيْنَ لَنَا أَنَّا وَارِدُونَ النَّارَ وَلَمْ يُبَيِّنْ لَنَا أَنَّا صَادِرُونَ مِنْهَا»

"They were raised in the righteousness of their father and no mention was made of their righteousness."
عَنْ سُوَيْدِ بْنِ نَصْرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْمُبَارَكِ عَنْ مِسْعَرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ مَيْسَرَةَ الزَّرَّادِ عَنْ سَعِيدِِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ فِي قَوْلِه تَعَالَى {§وَكَانَ أَبُوهُمَا صَالِحًا} [الكهف 82] قَالَ
«حُفِظَا بِصَلَاحِ أَبِيهِمَا وَلَمْ يَذْكُرْ مِنْهُمَا صَلَاحًا»

A man said to him, "Is it more amazing to you, a man with little work and few sins, or a man with much work and many sins?" He said, "I do not judge anything based on appearance."
عَنْ سُوَيْدِ بْنِ نَصْرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْمُبَارَكِ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ حَبْتَرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ
قَالَ لَهُ رَجُلٌ رَجُلٌ قَلِيلُ الْعَمَلِ قَلِيلُ الذُّنُوبِ أَعْجَبُ إِلَيْكِ أَوْ رَجُلٌ كَثِيرُ الْعَمَلِ كَثِيرُ الذُّنُوبِ؟ قَالَ «لَا أَعْدِلُ بِالسَّلَامَةِ شَيْئًا»

"The earth weeps for the believer for forty mornings."
عَنْ سُوَيْدِ بْنِ نَصْرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْمُبَارَكِ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ عَنْ أَبِي يَحْيَى الْقَتَّاتِ عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ
«تَبْكِي الْأَرْضُ عَلَى الْمُؤْمِنِ أَرْبَعِينَ صَبَاحًا»

"He said with his tongue, 'This provided me with resources.'"
عَنْ سُوَيْدِ بْنِ نَصْرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْمُبَارَكِ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرٍ الصِّدِّيقِ
أَنَّهُ قَالَ لِلِسَانِهِ «هَذَا أَوْرَدَنِي الْمَوَارِدَ»

"The man indeed leaves his house with his religion, then he returns and he has nothing with him."
عَنْ سُوَيْدِ بْنِ نَصْرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْمُبَارَكِ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ طَارِقِ بْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ
«إِنَّ الرَّجُلَ لَيَخْرُجُ مِنْ بَيْتِهِ وَمَعَهُ دِينُهُ ثُمَّ يَرْجِعُ وَمَا مَعَهُ شَيْءٌ» الْحَدِيثَ

"By Allah, there is not one among you who will not meet with his Lord alone and then he will state, 'O son of Adam, what deceived you concerning Me? O son of Adam, what have you done with what you knew? O son of Adam, how have you responded to the messengers?'"
عَنْ سُوَيْدِ بْنِ نَصْرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْمُبَارَكِ عَنْ شَرِيكٍ عَنْ هِلَالٍ الْوَزَّانِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُكَيْمٍ سَمِعْتُ أَنَّ ابْنَ مَسْعُودٍ بَدَأَ بِالْيَمِينِ قَبْلَ الْحَدِيثِ فَقَالَ
وَاللهِ مَا مِنْكُمْ مِنْ أَحَدٍ إِلَّا سَيَخْلُو بِرَبِّهِ ثُمَّ يَقُولُ يَا ابْنَ آدَمَ مَا غَرَّكَ بِي؟ يَا ابْنَ آدَمَ مَاذَا عَمِلْتَ فِيمَا عَلِمْتَ؟ يَا ابْنَ آدَمَ مَاذَا أَجَبْتَ الْمُرْسَلِينَ؟

Abdullah was brought a drink, so he said, "Give it to someone else." He said, "I am fasting." He said, "Give it to Aswad." He said, "I am fasting." He said, "Give it to so-and-so." He said, "I am fasting." All of them said, "I am fasting." Abdullah said, "I am not fasting." So, he took it and drank it, then he said, "They fear a Day when hearts and eyes will be overturned." [Surah An-Noor, 37]
عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرٍ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ عَلِيِّ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ الْمَرْوَزِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي كُرَيْبٍ عَنْ أَبِي أُسَامَةَ عَنْ زَائِدَةَ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ قَالَ
أُتِيَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بِشَرَابٍ فَقَالَ «نَاوِلْ عَلْقَمَةَ» قَالَ إِنِّي صَائِمٌ قَالَ «نَاوِلِ الْأَسْوَدَ» قَالَ إِنِّي صَائِمٌ قَالَ «نَاوِلْ فُلَانًا» قَالَ إِنِّي صَائِمٌ فَكُلُّهُمْ يَقُولُ إِنِّي صَائِمٌ قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ إِنِّي لَسْتُ بِصَائِمٍ فَأَخَذَ فَشَرِبَ ثُمَّ قَالَ {يَخَافُونَ يَوْمًا تَتَقَلَّبُ فِيهِ الْقُلُوبُ وَالْأَبْصَارُ} [النور 37]

عَنْ سُوَيْدِ بْنِ نَصْرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ الْمُبَارَكِ عَنْ سُفْيَان عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ أَبِي الْأَحْوَصِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ «§كَفَى بِالْمَرْءِ إِثْمًا
أَنْ يُحَدِّثَ بِكُلِّ مَا سَمِعَ»

عَنْ سُوَيْدِ بْنِ نَصْرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْمُبَارَكِ عَنْ فِطْرِ بْنِ خَلِيفَةَ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ أَبِي الْأَحْوَصِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ «إِنَّ §الْمُؤْمِنَ لِيَرَى ذُنُوبَهُ كَأَنَّهُ تَحْتَ صَخْرَةٍ يَخَافُ أَنْ تَقَعَ عَلَيْهِ وَإِنَّ الْكَافِرَ لِيَرَى ذَنْبَهُ
كَأَنَّهُ ذُبَابٌ مَرَّ عَلَى أَنْفِهِ»

"Abdullah said about this verse: 'Fear Allah as He deserves to be feared.' [Surah Al-Imran 102] He said: 'Fear Allah as He deserves to be feared means to obey Him and not disobey Him, to be grateful and not ungrateful, and to remember Him and not forget Him.' Abdullah said another time: 'And he gives wealth out of love for it.' [Surah Al-Baqarah 177] He said: 'And you are eager, stingy, longing for wealth, and afraid of poverty.'"
عَنْ سُوَيْدِ بْنِ نَصْرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْمُبَارَكِ عَنْ شُعْبَةَ عَنْ زُبَيْدٍ الْأَيَامِيِّ قَالَ قَالَ مُرَّةُ قَالَ
عَبْدُ اللهِ فِي هَذِهِ الْآيَةِ {اتَّقُوا اللهَ حَقَّ تُقَاتِهِ} [آل عمران 102] قَالَ {حَقَّ تُقَاتِهِ} [آل عمران 102] «أَنْ يُطَاعَ فَلَا يُعْصَى وَأَنْ يَشْكُرَ فَلَا يُكَفِّرُ وَأَنْ يَذْكُرَ فَلَا يَنْسَى» قَالَ مُرَّةُ قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ {وَآتَى الْمَالَ عَلَى حُبِّهِ} [البقرة 177] قَالَ «وَأَنْتَ حَرِيصٌ شَحِيحٌ تَأْمُلُ الْغِنَى وَتَخْشَى الْفَقْرَ»

عَنْ سُوَيْدِ بْنِ نَصْرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْمُبَارَكِ عَنْ شُعْبَةَ عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ سَمِعَ عُمَرُ §صَوْتَ رَجُلٍ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ فَقَالَ
«أَتَدْرِي أَيْنَ أَنْتَ؟»

Abu Darda fainted, but then woke up to find his son Bilal beside him. He said, "Get up and leave me alone." Then he said, "Who will do the same work as me? Who will do the same as my watch?" [We will) turn their hearts and vision as they did not believe it the first time and let them wander blindly in their transgression." [Al-An'am 110]. After you die, he fainted, and then he remained unconscious for a while. Then he woke up and said the same thing. He kept repeating it until he passed away.
عَنْ سُوَيْدِ بْنِ نَصْرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْمُبَارَكِ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ بْنِ جَابِرٍ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي الْمُهَاجِرِ الْمَخْزُومِيِّ عَنْ أُمِّ الدَّرْدَاءِ قَالَتْ
أُغْمِيَ عَلَى أَبِي الدَّرْدَاءِ فَأَفَاقَ فَإِذَا بِلَالٌ ابْنُهُ عِنْدَهُ فَقَالَ قُمْ فَاخْرُجْ عَنِّي ثُمَّ قَالَ مَنْ يَعْمَلُ لِمِثْلِ مَضْجَعِي هَذَا؟ مَنْ يَعْمَلُ مِثْلَ سَاعَتِي هَذِهِ؟ {وَنُقَلِّبُ أَفْئِدَتَهُمْ وَأَبْصَارَهُمْ كَمَا لَمْ يُؤْمِنُوا بِهِ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍ وَنَذَرُهُمْ فِي طُغْيَانِهِمْ يَعْمَهُونَ} [الأنعام 110] أَبَيْتُمْ ثُمَّ يُغْمَى عَلَيْهِ فَيَلْبَثُ لَبْثًا ثُمَّ يُفِيقُ فَيَقُولُ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ فَلَمْ يَزَلْ يُرَدِّدُهَا حَتَّى قُبِضَ

I asked Umm al-Darda, "Which form of worship did Abu Darda engage in the most?" She replied, "Reflection and contemplation."
عَنْ سُوَيْدِ بْنِ نَصْرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْمُبَارَكِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَجْلَانَ عَنْ عَوْنِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ
قُلْتُ لِأُمِّ الدَّرْدَاءِ أَيُّ عِبَادَةِ أَبِي الدَّرْدَاءِ كَانَتْ أَكْثَرَ؟ قَالَتْ «التَّفَكُّرُ وَالِاعْتِبَارُ»

"The graves have buried many people, if they saw me sitting with you, I would feel ashamed."
عَنْ سُوَيْدِ بْنِ نَصْرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْمُبَارَكِ عَنْ الْأَوْزَاعِيِّ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عُرْوَةَ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ عَنِ الْمِسْوَرِ بْنِ مَخْرَمَةَ قَالَ
«لَقَدْ وَارَتِ الْقُبُورُ أَقْوَامًا لَوْ رَأَوْنِي جَالِسًا مَعَكُمْ لَاسْتَحْيَيْتُ»

You are oblivious to the best form of worship, which is humility.
عَنْ سُوَيْدِ بْنِ نَصْرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْمُبَارَكِ عَنْ مِسْعَرٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ الْأَسْوَدِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ
إِنَّكُمْ لَتُغْفُلُونَ أَفْضَلَ الْعِبَادَةِ التَّوَاضُعَ

Aisha wrote to Muawiyah: After this, fear Allah, for if you fear Allah, it will be sufficient for you in dealing with people. But if you fear people, they will not benefit you at all against Allah.
عَنْ سُوَيْدِ بْنِ نَصْرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْمُبَارَكِ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ رَجُلٍ عَنْ عُرْوَةَ قَالَ
كَتَبْتْ عَائِشَةُ إِلَى مُعَاوِيَةَ أَمَا بَعْدُ فَاتَّقِ اللهَ فَإِنَّكَ إِنِ اتَّقَيْتَ اللهَ كَفَاكَ النَّاسَ وَإِنِ اتَّقَيْتَ النَّاسَ لَمْ يَغْنَوْا عَنْكَ مِنَ اللهِ شَيْئًا

"Do not look at the smallness of the sin, but rather look at whom you have disobeyed."
عَنْ سُوَيْدِ بْنِ نَصْرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْمُبَارَكِ عَنْ الْأَوْزَاعِيِّ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ بِلَالَ بْنَ سَعْدِ بْنِ تَمِيمٍ الدِّمَشْقِيَّ الْقَاصَّ قَالَ
«لَا تَنْظُرْ إِلَى صِغَرِ الْخَطِيئَةِ وَلَكِنِ انْظُرْ مَنْ عَصَيْتَ»

I noticed them mingling among the objects and laughing with each other. When night fell, they turned into monks.
عَنْ سُوَيْدِ بْنِ نَصْرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ الْمُبَارَكِ عَنِ الْأَوْزَاعِيِّ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ بِلَالَ بْنَ سَعْدٍ قَالَ
«أَدْرَكْتُهُمْ يَشْتَدُّونَ بَيْنَ الْأَغْرَاضِ وَيَضْحَكُ بَعْضُهُمْ إِلَى بَعْضٍ فَإِذَا كَانَ اللَّيْلُ كَانُوا رُهْبَانًا»
Classification

If you want something good, do not postpone it for tomorrow. And if you are engaged in a matter of the hereafter, stay as long as you can. And if you are in a worldly matter, focus on it. And when you pray, the devil says, "You are being delusional." So, multiply it in length.
عَنْ سُوَيْدِ بْنِ نَصْرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ وَهُوَ الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ خَيْثَمَةَ وَهُوَ ابْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ الْجُعْفِيِّ قَالَ
إِذَا أَرَدْتَ أَمْرًا مِنَ الْخَيْرِ فَلَا تُؤَخِّرْهُ لِغَدٍ وَإِذَا كُنْتَ فِي أَمَرِ آخِرَةٍ فَامْكُثْ مَا اسْتَطَعْتَ وَإِذَا كُنْتَ فِي أَمَرِ الدُّنْيَا فَتَوَجَّهْ وَإِذَا كُنْتَ تُصَلِّي فَقَالَ الشَّيْطَانُ إِنَّكَ تُرَائِي فَزِدْهَا طَوْلًا

I heard Al-Hasan saying, "Indeed, a person may commit a sin and continue to feel remorseful until they enter Paradise."
عَنْ سُوَيْدِ بْنِ نَصْرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ بْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ عَنْ إِسْرَائِيلَ بْنِ مُوسَى قَالَ
سَمِعْتُ الْحَسَنَ يَقُولُ «إِنَّ الْعَبْدَ لَيُذْنِبُ الذَّنْبَ فَمَا يَزَالُ بِهِ كَئِيبًا حَتَّى يَدْخُلَ الْجَنَّةَ»
