The Virtue of Knowledge
بَابُ فَضْلِ الْعِلْمِ
Sunan an-Nasa'i al-Kubra, Book of Knowledge(view book)
Qutaybah b. Saʿīd > al-Layth > ʿUqayl > al-Zuhrī > Ḥamzah b. ʿAbdullāh > ʿAbdullāh b. ʿUmar
I heard Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "While I was sleeping, I saw that a cup full of milk was brought to me and I drank of it and gave the remaining of it to ʿUmar bin Al-Khattab." They asked. What have you interpreted (about the dream)? O Messenger of Allah ﷺ?" The Prophet ﷺ said. "(It is Religious) knowledge."
أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ عَنْ عُقَيْلٍ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ حَمْزَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ
سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «بَيْنَا أَنَا نَائِمٌ أُتِيتُ بِقَدَحٍ فَشَرِبْتُ مِنْهُ ثُمَّ أَعْطَيْتُ فَضْلِي عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ» قَالُوا فَمَا أَوَّلْتَهُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ «الْعِلْمُ»

I heard Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "While I was sleeping, I saw a bowl full of milk was brought to me and I drank of it (to my fill) till I noticed its wetness flowing (in my body). Then I gave the remaining of it to ʿUmar." They asked, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! What have you interpreted (about the dream)? He said, "(It is Religious) knowledge." (See Hadith No. 134)
أَخْبَرَنَا نُوحُ بْنُ حَبِيبٍ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ سَالِمٍ
عَنْ أَبِيهِ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يُحَدِّثُ قَالَ «بَيْنَا أَنَا نَائِمٌ رَأَيْتُ أَنِّي أُتِيتُ بِقَدَحٍ فَشَرِبْتُ مِنْهُ حَتَّى أَنِّي أَرَى الرِّيَّ يَجْرِي ثُمَّ إِنِّي أَعْطَيْتُ فَضْلِي عُمَرَ» قَالُوا فَمَا أَوَّلْتَهُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ؟ قَالَ «الْعِلْمُ»

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever Allah wishes good for, He gives him understanding of the religion. Indeed, I am merely a distributor, and it is Allah who gives." Abu Abdur-Rahman disagreed with him. Yunus narrated it from Az-Zuhri, from Humaid bin Abdul Rahman, from Abu Hurairah.
أَخْبَرَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْيَمَانِ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا شُعَيْبٌ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو سَلَمَةَ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ قَالَ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «مَنْ يُرِدِ اللهُ بِهِ خَيْرًا يُفَقِّهْهُ فِي الدِّينِ فَإِنَّمَا أَنَا قَاسِمٌ وَيُعْطِي اللهُ» قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ خَالَفَهُ يُونُسُ رَوَاهُ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ
