ʿUbayd b. ʿAbd al-Wāḥid > Ibn Abū Maryam > Yaḥyá b. Ayyūb > Khālid b. Yazīd > Yazīd b. Muḥammad al-Qurashī > al-Mughīrah b. Abū Burdah > Abū Hurayrah

A group of people came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "We are fishing in the sea, and we have fresh water with us. We are afraid of getting thirsty. Is it permissible for us to perform ablution with the salty water of the sea?" He ﷺ replied, "Yes, perform ablution with it." Al-Bukhari, Yazid ibn Muhammad al-Qurashi, has narrated this in the history, and it has also been narrated by Layth ibn Abi Burdah from him, and among them is Sa'id ibn al-Musayyib.

فَحَدَّثَنَاهُ عَلِيُّ بْنُ حَمْشَاذَ الْعَدْلُ ثنا عُبَيْدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَاحِدِ ثنا ابْنُ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ أَخْبَرَنِي يَحْيَى بْنُ أَيُّوبَ حَدَّثَنِي خَالِدُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ أَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنَ مُحَمَّدٍ الْقُرَشِيَّ حَدَّثَهُ عَنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ

أَتَى نَفَرٌ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالُوا إِنَّا نَصِيدُ فِي الْبَحْرِ وَمَعَنَا مِنَ الْمَاءِ الْعَذْبِ فَرُبَّمَا تَخَوَّفْنَا الْعَطَشَ فَهَلْ يَصْلُحُ أَنْ نَتَوَضَّأَ مِنَ الْبَحْرِ الْمَالِحِ؟ فَقَالَ «نَعَمْ تَوَضَّئُوا مِنْهُ» وَأَمَّا «الْبُخَارِيُّ يَزِيدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْقُرَشِيُّ هَذَا فِي التَّارِيخِ وَأَنَّهُ قَدْ رَوَى عَنْهُ اللَّيْثُ بْنُ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ فَمِنْهُمْ سَعِيدُ بْنُ الْمُسَيِّبِ»
