Abū ʿAbdullāh Muḥammad b. ʿAlī al-Ṣaghānī Bimakkah > Isḥāq b. Ibrāhīm > ʿAbd al-Razzāq > Maʿmar > al-Zuhrī > Nabhān Mukātab Um Salamah > Innī Laʾaqūd Bihā Bi-al-Baydāʾ or Bi-al-Abwāʾ > Man Hadhā Qult > Nabhān > Innī

"I drive it in the desert or in the plains," she said. "Who is this?" I said, "I am Nabhan." She then said, "I have left the remaining of your correspondence for my nephew Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn Abi Umaiyah. I have helped him with it in his marriage." I said, "No, by Allah, I will never hand it over to him." She said, "If your oath is to enter upon me or to see me, then by Allah, you will never see me. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'If there is anything to be delivered to a messenger, then take precautionary measures against it.'" – Sound

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الصَّغَانِيُّ بِمَكَّةَ ثنا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ أَنْبَأَ مَعْمَرٌ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي نَبْهَانُ مُكَاتَبُ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ قَالَ

إِنِّي لَأَقُودُ بِهَا بِالْبَيْدَاءِ أَوْ بِالْأَبْوَاءِ قَالَتْ مَنْ هَذَا؟ قُلْتُ أَنَا نَبْهَانُ فَقَالَتْ إِنِّي تَرَكْتُ بَقِيَّةَ مُكَاتَبَتِكَ لِابْنِ أَخِي مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي أُمَيَّةَ أَعَنْتُهُ بِهِ فِي نِكَاحِهِ قَالَ فَقُلْتُ لَا وَاللَّهِ لَا أُؤَدِّيهِ إِلَيْهِ أَبَدًا قَالَتْ إِنْ كَانَ أَيْمَانُكَ أَنْ تَدْخُلَ عَلَيَّ أَوْ تَرَانِي فَوَاللَّهِ لَا تَرَانِي أَبَدًا إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «إِذَا كَانَ عِنْدَ الْمُكَاتَبِ مَا يُؤَدِّي فَاحْتَجِبِي مِنْهُ» هَذَا حَدِيثٌ صَحِيحُ الْإِسْنَادِ وَلَمْ يُخَرِّجَاهُ صحيح – صحيح
