ʿUbaydullāh b. Rawḥ al-Madāyinī > Shabābah b. Sawwār > Shuʿbah > al-ʿAlāʾ b. ʿAbd al-Raḥman from his father > Ubay b. Kaʿb

"He (the narrator) recited upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , 'Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds,' until he completed it, then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Indeed, it is the seven often repeated (verses) and the great Qur'an that I have been given.' 'And I found that for the narration of Abdul Hamid ibn Ja'far, a witness to hearing from Abu Hurairah, this hadith from Ubay ibn Ka'b from the narration of the people of Madinah.'"

فَأَخْبَرَنَاهُ أَبُو بَكْرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ حَاتِمٍ الْمَرْوَزِيُّ ثنا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ رَوْحٍ الْمَدَايِنِيُّ ثنا شَبَابَةُ بْنُ سَوَّارٍ ثنا شُعْبَةُ عَنِ الْعَلَاءِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ

أَنَّهُ قَرَأَ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ حَتَّى خَتَمَهَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «إِنَّهَا السَّبْعُ الْمَثَانِي وَالْقُرْآنُ الْعَظِيمُ الَّذِي أُعْطِيتُ» «وَقَدْ وَجَدْتُ لِحَدِيثِ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ شَاهِدًا فِي سَمَاعِ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ عَنْ أُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ مِنْ حَدِيثِ الْمَدَنِيِّينَ»
