Abū Ḥātim al-Rāzī > ʿAffān b. Muslim And Mūsá b. Ismāʿīl > Ḥammād b. Salamah > Thābit al-Bunānī > ʿAbd al-Raḥman b. Abū Laylá > Usayd b. Ḥuḍayr > Baynā > Aqraʾ al-Laylah Sūrah al-Baqarah Falammā Āntahayt > Ākhirihā

He said, "While I was reciting Surah Al-Baqarah tonight, when I reached its end, I heard a noise from behind me and thought that my horse was being released. He said, 'Recite, O Abu 'Atiq,' and I turned around, and behold, there were lamps suspended between the heavens and the earth." He said, "O Messenger of Allah, I swear by Allah, I am not capable of continuing." He said, "Those are the angels who have descended to listen to the recitation of the Quran. Surely if you had continued, you would have seen wonders."

أَخْبَرْنَاهُ أَبُو بَكْرٍ إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْفَقِيهُ بِالرِّيِّ ثنا أَبُو حَاتِمٍ الرَّازِيُّ ثنا عَفَّانُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ وَمُوسَى بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ قَالَا ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ ثَابِتٍ الْبُنَانِيِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى عَنْ أُسَيْدِ بْنِ حُضَيْرٍ

أَنَّهُ قَالَ بَيْنَا أَنَا أَقْرَأُ اللَّيْلَةَ سُورَةَ الْبَقَرَةِ فَلَمَّا انْتَهَيْتُ إِلَى آخِرِهَا سَمِعْتُ وَجْبَةً مِنْ خَلْفِي فَظَنَنْتُ أَنَّ فَرَسِي تُطْلَقُ فَقَالَ «اقْرَأْ أَبَا عَتِيكٍ وَالْتَفَتُّ فَإِذَا أَمْثَالُ الْمَصَابِيحِ مُدَلَّاةٌ بَيْنَ السَّمَاءِ وَالْأَرْضِ» فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ وَاللَّهِ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُ أَنْ أَمْضِيَ قَالَ فَقَالَ «تِلْكَ الْمَلَائِكَةُ نَزَلَتْ لِقِرَاءَةِ الْقُرْآنِ أَمَا إِنَّكَ لَوْ مَضَيْتَ لَرَأَيْتَ الْعَجَائِبَ»
