Abū al-ʿAbbās Muḥammad b. Yaʿqūb > al-Rabīʿ b. Sulaymān > Asad b. Mūsá > al-Layth b. Saʿd > Ibn Shihāb > ʿAbd al-Raḥman b. Kaʿb > Mālik > Usayd b. Ḥuḍayr

"He used to recite while sitting on the porch of his house, and he had a beautiful voice. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came and said, 'I heard you reciting while something like a cloud overshadowed you, and there was a woman in the house and a horse in the yard, so I feared that the woman would fall and the horse would run away. So I left.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, 'Continue reciting, O master, for it was an angel who was listening to the Quran.'"

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ ثنا الرَّبِيعُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ ثنا أَسَدُ بْنُ مُوسَى ثنا اللَّيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ حَدَّثَنِي ابْنُ شِهَابٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ كَعْبٍ عَنْ مَالِكٍ عَنْ أُسَيْدِ بْنِ حُضَيْرٍ

أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَقْرَأُ وَهُوَ عَلَى ظَهْرِ بَيْتِهِ وَهُوَ حَسَنُ الصَّوْتِ فَجَاءَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ بَيْنَا أقْرَأُ إِذْ غَشِيَنِي شَيْءٌ كَالسَّحَابِ وَالْمَرْأَةُ فِي الْبَيْتِ وَالْفَرَسُ فِي الدَّارِ فَتَخَوَّفْتُ أَنْ تَسْقُطَ الْمَرْأَةُ وَتَنْفَلِتَ الْفَرَسُ فَانْصَرَفْتُ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «اقْرَأْ يَا أُسَيْدُ فَإِنَّمَا هُوَ مَلَكٌ اسْتَمَعَ الْقُرْآنَ»
