From the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: The first book was revealed through one door and on one letter. The Quran was revealed through seven doors and on seven letters, commanding and prohibiting, declaring lawful and unlawful, with unambiguous verses and ambiguous verses, and examples. So make lawful what it permits, and prohibit what it forbids, and do what you are commanded to do, and refrain from what you are prohibited from, and consider its examples, and follow its unambiguous verses, and believe in its ambiguous verses, and say, "We believe in it; all of it is from our Lord."

حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حَمْشَاذَ الْعَدْلُ ثنا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ ثنا أَبُو هَمَّامٍ ثنا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ أَخْبَرَنِي حَيْوَةُ بْنُ شُرَيْحٍ عَنْ عُقَيْلِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ عَنْ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ

عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ نَزَلَ الْكِتَابُ الْأَوَّلُ مِنْ بَابٍ وَاحِدٍ عَلَى حَرْفٍ وَاحِدٍ وَنَزَلَ الْقُرْآنُ مِنْ سَبْعَةِ أَبْوَابٍ عَلَى سَبْعَةِ أَحْرُفٍ زَاجِرًا وَآمِرًا وَحَلَالًا وَحَرَامًا وَمُحْكَمًا وَمُتَشَابِهًا وَأَمْثَالًا فَأَحِلُّوا حَلَالَهُ وَحَرِّمُوا حَرَامَهُ وَافْعَلُوا مَا أُمِرْتُمْ بِهِ وَانْتَهُوا عَمَّا نُهِيتُمْ عَنْهُ وَاعْتَبِرُوا بَأَمْثَالِهِ وَاعْمَلُوا بِمُحْكَمِهِ وَآمِنُوا بِمُتَشَابِهِهِ وَقُولُوا آمَنَّا بِهِ كُلٌّ مِنْ عِنْدِ رَبِّنَا هَذَا حَدِيثٌ صَحِيحُ الْإِسْنَادِ وَلَمْ يُخَرِّجَاهُ
