“When Walid bin ʿUqbah was brought to ʿUthman, they had testified against him. He said to 'Ali: 'You are close to your uncle's son, so carry out the legal punishment on him.' So 'Ali whipped him. He said: 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave forty lashes, and Abu Bakr gave forty lashes, and 'Umar gave eighty all are Sunnah.'” – Sound Chain

حَدَّثَنَا مُسْلِمُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ أَنْبَأََنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ الْمُخْتَارِ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ الدَّانَاجُ حَدَّثَنَا حُضَيْنُ بْنُ الْمُنْذِرِ الرَّقَاشِيُّ قَالَ شَهِدْتُ عُثْمَانَ بْنَ عَفَّانَ وَأُتِيَ بِالْوَلِيدِ بْنِ عُقْبَةَ فَقَالَ

عَلِيٌّ «جَلَدَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَرْبَعِينَ وَجَلَدَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ أَرْبَعِينَ وَعُمَرُ ثَمَانِينَ وَكُلٌّ سُنَّةٌ» – إسناده صحيح
