Yaʿlá b. ʿUbayd > Zakariyyā > ʿĀmir > ʿAdī b. Ḥātim

I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about hunting with a dog, and he said, "Whatever your dog hunts and you are able to catch, then eat it, for its catch is a gift for you. But if you find another dog with it and you fear that it may have killed it, then do not eat it, for you only mentioned the name of Allah on your own dog and did not mention it on any other." – Sound Chain

أَخْبَرَنَا يَعْلَى بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ ثَنَا زَكَرِيَّا عَنْ عَامِرٍ عَنْ عَدِيِّ بْنِ حَاتِمٍ قَالَ

سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَنْ صَيْدِ الْكَلْبِ فَقَالَ «مَا أَمْسَكَ عَلَيْكَ كَلْبُكَ فَكُلْ فَإِنَّ أَخْذَهُ ذَكَاتُهُ وَإِنْ وَجَدْتَ مَعَهُ كَلْبًا فَخَشِيتَ أَنْ يَكُونَ قَدْ أَخَذَهُ مَعَهُ وَقَدْ قَتَلَهُ فَلَا تَأْكُلْهُ فَإِنَّكَ إِنَّمَا ذَكَرْتَ اسْمَ اللَّهِ عَلَى كَلْبِكَ وَلَمْ تَذْكُرْهُ عَلَى غَيْرِهِ» – إسناده صحيح

I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about hunting with throwing arrows, so he mentioned something similar to it. – Sound Chain

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ حَدَّثَنَا زَكَرِيَّا عَنْ عَامِرٍ عَنْ عَدِيِّ بْنِ حَاتِمٍ قَالَ

سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَنْ صَيْدِ الْمِعْرَاضِ فَذَكَرَ مِثْلَهُ – إسناده صحيح

Abū Nuʿaym > Sufyān > ʿAbdullāh b. Dīnār > Ibn ʿUmar

Ibn 'Umar reported Messenger of Allah ﷺ as saying He who kept a dog other than one meant for hunting or for watching the herd lost out of his deeds (equal to) two qirat every day. – Sound Chain

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «مَنْ اقْتَنَى كَلْبًا إِلَّا كَلْبَ صَيْدٍ أَوْ مَاشِيَةٍ نَقَصَ مِنْ عَمَلِهِ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ قِيرَاطَانِ» – إسناده صحيح

al-Ḥakam b. al-Mubārak > Mālik > Yazīd b. Khuṣayfah > al-Sāʾib b. Yazīd > Sufyān b. Abū Zuhayr > Nās Maʿah ʿInd Bāb al-Masjid

“I heard the Prophet ﷺ say: ‘Whoever keeps a dog that he does not need for farming or herding, one Qirat will be deducted from his (good) deeds each day.’” – Sound Chain

حَدَّثَنَا الْحَكَمُ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكٌ عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ خُصَيْفَةَ عَنْ السَّائِبِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ سُفْيَانَ بْنَ أَبِي زُهَيْرٍ يُحَدِّثُ نَاسًا مَعَهُ عِنْدَ بَابِ الْمَسْجِدِ قَالَ

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «مَنْ اقْتَنَى كَلْبًا لَا يُغْنِي عَنْهُ زَرْعًا وَلَا ضَرْعًا نَقَصَ مِنْ عَمَلِهِ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ قِيرَاطٌ» قَالُوا أَنْتَ سَمِعْتَ هَذَا مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ؟ قَالَ إِي وَرَبِّ هَذَا الْمَسْجِدِ – إسناده صحيح

And Hb b. Jarīr > Shuʿbah > Abū al-Tayyāḥ > Muṭarrif > ʿAbdullāh b. Mughaffal

The Prophet ﷺ ordered the killing of dogs, then he said, "What is the matter with me and the dogs?" Then he permitted the keeping of farm dogs and hunting dogs. – Sound Chain

أَخْبَرَنَا وَهْبُ بْنُ جَرِيرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ أَبِي التَّيَّاحِ عَنْ مُطَرِّفٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُغَفَّلٍ

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ أَمَرَ بِقَتْلِ الْكِلَابِ ثُمَّ قَالَ «مَالِي وَلِلْكِلَابِ؟» ثُمَّ رَخَّصَ فِي كَلْبِ الزَّرْعِ وَكَلْبِ الصَّيْدِ – إسناده صحيح

Khālid b. Makhlad > Mālik > Nāfiʿ > Ibn ʿUmar

“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded that dogs be killed.” – Strong Chain

أَخْبَرَنَا خَالِدُ بْنُ مَخْلَدٍ حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكٌ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ

«أَمَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِقَتْلِ الْكِلَابِ» – إسناده قوي

Saʿīd b. ʿĀmir > ʿAwf > al-Ḥasan > ʿAbdullāh b. Mughaffal

The Prophet ﷺ said: Were dogs not a species of creature I should command that they all be killed; but kill every pure black one. – Sound Chain

أَخْبَرَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ حَدَّثَنَا عَوْفٌ عَنْ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُغَفَّلٍ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «لَوْلَا أَنَّ الْكِلَابَ أُمَّةٌ مِنَ الْأُمَمِ لَأَمَرْتُ بِقَتْلِهَا كُلِّهَا وَلَكِنِ اقْتُلُوا مِنْهَا كُلَّ أَسْوَدَ بَهِيمٍ» قَالَ سَعِيدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ «الْبَهِيمُ الْأَسْوَدُ كُلُّهُ» – إسناده صحيح

Sulaymān b. Ḥarb > Shuʿbah > ʿAbdullāh b. Abū al-Safar > al-Shaʿbī > ʿAdī b. Ḥātim

" I heard 'Adiyy bin Hatim say: 'I asked the Messenger of Allah about the Mirad and he said: "If the sharp point hits 9the game) then eat, bu8t if the broad edge of it hits it, and it is killed, then it has been killed by a blow, so do not eat." – Sound Chain

أَخْبَرَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي السَّفَرِ عَنْ الشَّعْبِيِّ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَدِيَّ بْنَ حَاتِمٍ قَالَ

سَأَلْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ عَنِ الْمِعْرَاضِ فَقَالَ «إِذَا أَصَابَ بِحَدِّهِ فَكُلْ وَإِذَا أَصَابَ بِعَرْضِهِ فَقَتَلَ فَإِنَّهُ وَقِيذٌ فَلَا تَأْكُلْ» – إسناده صحيح

Muḥammad b. Yūsuf > Sufyān > Abū Yaʿfūr > ʿAbdullāh b. Abū Awfá

We went on seven expeditions with Messenger of Allah ﷺ and ate locusts. – Sound Chain

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ عَنْ أَبِي يَعْفُورٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي أَوْفَى قَالَ

«غَزَوْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ سَبْعَ غَزَوَاتٍ نَأْكُلُ الْجَرَادَ» – إسناده صحيح

Muḥammad b. al-Mubārak Qirāʾah > Mālik > Ṣafwān b. Sulaym > Saʿīd b. Salamah from Āl al-Azraq > al-Mughīrah b. Abū Burdah / a man from Banī ʿAbd al-Dār > Abū Hurayrah

A man asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: Messenger of Allah, we travel on the sea and take a small quantity of water with us. If we use this for ablution, we would suffer from thirst. Can we perform ablution with sea water? The Messenger ﷺ replied: Its water is pure and what dies in it is lawful food. – Sound

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ قِرَاءَةً عَنْ مَالِكٍ عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ سُلَيْمٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ مِنْ آلِ الْأَزْرَقِ أَنَّ الْمُغِيرَةَ بْنَ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ وَهُوَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ بَنِي عَبْدِ الدَّارِ

أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ يَقُولُ سَأَلَ رَجُلٌ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَ إِنَّا نَرْكَبُ الْبَحْرَ وَنَحْمِلُ مَعَنَا الْقَلِيلَ مِنَ الْمَاءِ فَإِنْ تَوَضَّأْنَا بِهِ عَطِشْنَا أَفَنَتَوَضَّأُ مِنْ مَاءِ الْبَحْرِ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «هُوَ الطَّهُورُ مَاؤُهُ الْحِلُّ مَيْتَتُهُ» – صحيح

Zakariyyā b. ʿAdī > Ibn ʿUyaynah > ʿAmr / Ibn Dīnār > Jābir

"We were sent the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with three hundred men, and we suffered from hunger until we reached the sea. There, a creature was thrown at us and we ate from it until our bodies were satisfied. Abu Ubaidah took a rib from it and placed it. Then, the longest man in the army carried it on the greatest camel in the army, and it passed under it." This is its meaning. – Sound Chain

أَخْبَرَنَا زَكَرِيَّا بْنُ عَدِيٍّ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ عَنْ عَمْرٍو يَعْنِي ابْنَ دِينَارٍ عَنْ جَابِرٍ قَالَ

«بَعَثَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي ثَلَاثِ مِائَةٍ فَأَصَابَنَا جُوعٌ حَتَّى أَتَيْنَا الْبَحْرَ وَقَدْ قَذَفَ دَابَّةً فَأَكَلْنَا مِنْهَا حَتَّى ثَابَتْ أَجْسَامُنَا فَأَخَذَ أَبُو عُبَيْدَةَ ضِلْعًا مِنْ أَضْلَاعِهَا فَوَضَعَهُ ثُمَّ حَمَلَ أَطْوَلَ رَجُلٍ فِي الْجَيْشِ عَلَى أَعْظَمِ بَعِيرٍ فِي الْجَيْشِ فَمَرَّ تَحْتَهُ» هَذَا مَعْنَاهُ – إسناده صحيح

Abū al-Walīd > Shuʿbah > Hishām b. Zayd b. Anas > Anas b. Mālik

He informed me, he said, "I heard Anas ibn Malik say, 'We captured a rabbit while we were passing by Aldhahran. The people rushed and scared it away, but I caught it and brought it to Abu Talha. He slaughtered it and sent its forelegs or hindlegs as a gift to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ .' So he accepted it." – Sound Chain

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ قَالَ هِشَامُ بْنُ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ

أَخْبَرَنِي قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ يَقُولُ أَنْفَجْنَا أَرْنَبًا وَنَحْنُ بِمَرِّ الظَّهْرَانِ فَسَعَى الْقَوْمُ فَلَغِبُوا فَأَخَذْتُهَا وَجِئْتُ بِهَا إِلَى أَبِي طَلْحَةَ فَذَبَحَهَا وَبَعَثَ بِوَرِكَيْهَا أَوْ فَخِذَيْهَا شَكَّ شُعْبَةُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ «فَقَبِلَهَا» – إسناده صحيح

Yazīd b. Hārūn > Dāwud b. Abū Hind > ʿĀmir > Muḥammad b. Ṣafwān

“O Messenger of Allah, I caught these two rabbits but I cannot find any iron* with which to slaughter them with Marwah** and eat them?” He said: “Eat.” – Sound Chain

أَخْبَرَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ أَنْبَأَنَا دَاوُدُ بْنُ أَبِي هِنْدٍ عَنْ عَامِرٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ صَفْوَانَ

أَنَّهُ مَرَّ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ بِأَرْنَبَيْنِ مُعَلِّقُهُمَا فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي دَخَلْتُ غَنَمَ أَهْلِي فَاصْطَدْتُ هَذَيْنِ الْأَرْنَبَيْنِ فَلَمْ أَجِدْ حَدِيدَةً أُذَكِّيهِمَا بِهَا فَذَكَّيْتُهُمَا بِمَرْوَةٍ أَفَآكُلُ؟ قَالَ «نَعَمْ» – إسناده صحيح

Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked about the eating of (the flesh) of the lizard, whereupon he said: I am neither the eater of it nor its prohibitor. – Sound Chain

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ

سُئِلَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ عَنِ الضَّبِّ فَقَالَ «لَسْتُ بِآكِلِهِ وَلَا مُحَرِّمِهِ» – إسناده صحيح

Sahl b. Ḥammād > Shuʿbah > al-Ḥakam > Zayd b. WahbYuḥaddith > al-Barāʾ b. ʿĀzib > Thābit b. Wadīʿah

a man brought a mastigure to the Prophet and he said? "A nation was transformed, and Allah knows best " – Sound Chain

أَخْبَرَنَا سَهْلُ بْنُ حَمَّادٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ حَدَّثَنَا الْحَكَمُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ زَيْدَ بْنَ وَهْبٍ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ الْبَرَاءِ بْنِ عَازِبٍ عَنْ ثَابِتِ بْنِ وَدِيعَةَ قَالَ

أُتِيَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ بِضَبٍّ فَقَالَ «أُمَّةٌ مُسِخَتْ وَاللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ» – إسناده صحيح

ʿAbdullāh b. Ṣāliḥ > al-Layth > Yūnus > Ibn Shihāb > Abū Umāmah b. Sahl b. Ḥunayf al-Anṣārī > ʿAbdullāh b. ʿAbbās > Khālid b. al-Walīd al--Adhī Yuqāl Lah Sayf Allāh

Messenger of Allah, it is a lizard. Messenger of Allah ﷺ withdrew his hand, whereupon Khalid b. Walid said: Messenger of Allah, is a lizard forbidden? There opon he said: No, but it is not found in the land of my people, and I feel that I have no liking for it. Khalid said: I then chewed and ate it, and Messenger of Allah ﷺ was looking at me and he did not forbid (me to eat it). – Weak Chain

أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ صَالِحٍ حَدَّثَنِي اللَّيْثُ حَدَّثَنِي يُونُسُ عَنْ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ أَنَّهُ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو أُمَامَةَ بْنُ سَهْلِ بْنِ حُنَيْفٍ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عَبَّاسٍ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ خَالِدَ بْنَ الْوَلِيدِ الَّذِي يُقَالُ لَهُ سَيْفُ اللَّهِ

أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّهُ دَخَلَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَلَى مَيْمُونَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَهِيَ خَالَتُهُ وَخَالَةُ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ فَوَجَدَ عِنْدَهَا ضَبًّا مَحْنُوذًا قَدِمَتْ بِهِ أُخْتُهَا حُفَيْدَةُ بِنْتُ الْحَارِثِ مِنْ نَجْدٍ فَقَدَّمَتِ الضَّبَّ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَكَانَ قَلَّمَا يُقَدِّمُ يَدَهُ لِطَعَامٍ حَتَّى يُحَدَّثَ بِهِ وَيُسَمَّى لَهُ فَأَهْوَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَدَهُ إِلَى الضَّبِّ فَقَالَتِ امْرَأَةٌ مِنْ نِسْوَةِ الْحُضُورِ أَخْبِرْنَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَا قَدَّمْتُنَّ لَهُ قُلْنَ هَذَا الضَّبُّ فَرَفَعَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَدَهُ فَقَالَ خَالِدُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ أَتُحَرِّمُ الضَّبَّ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ؟ قَالَ «لَا وَلَكِنَّهُ لَمْ يَكُنْ بِأَرْضِ قَوْمِي فَأَجِدُنِي أَعَافُهُ» قَالَ خَالِدٌ فَاجْتَرَرْتُهُ فَأَكَلْتُهُ وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَنْظُرُ فَلَمْ يَنْهَنِي – إسناده ضعيف
