Abū al-Nuʿmān > Yazīd b. Zurayʿ > Dāwud > Abū Naḍrah > Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī

Abu Musa Al-Ash'ari sought permission from Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, three times, but he was not granted permission. So he returned and said, "What made you come back?" Abu Musa replied, "I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, saying, 'If someone seeks permission three times and is not granted it, then let them return.' So Umar said, 'Bring someone to testify with you or I will do something [harsh].' Abu Sa'eed said, 'Umar called me while I was in the mosque, fearing Umar's anger towards me. He stood up and said, 'I swear by Allah, among you there is a man who heard this from the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, except that he did not testify to it.' I lifted my head and said, 'Let me inform Umar that I am with you on this.' Others also said the same, and Abu Musa's problem was resolved." – Sound Chain

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو النُّعْمَانِ حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ زُرَيْعٍ حَدَّثَنَا دَاوُدُ عَنْ أَبِي نَضْرَةَ عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ

أَنَّ أَبَا مُوسَى الْأَشْعَرِيَّ اسْتَأْذَنَ عَلَى عُمَرَ رِضْوَانُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ فَلَمْ يُؤْذَنْ لَهُ فَرَجَعَ فَقَالَ مَا رَجَعَكَ؟ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ إِذَا اسْتَأْذَنَ الْمُسْتَأْذِنُ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ فَإِنْ أُذِنَ لَهُ وَإِلَّا فَلْيَرْجِعْ فَقَالَ لَتَأْتِيَنَّ بِمَنْ يَشْهَدُ مَعَكَ أَوْ لَأَفْعَلَنَّ وَلَأَفْعَلَنَّ قَالَ أَبُو سَعِيدٍ وأَتَانَا وَأَنَا فِي قَوْمٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ وَهُوَ فَزِعٌ مِنْ وَعِيدِ عُمَرَ إِيَّاهُ فَقَامَ عَلَيْنَا فَقَالَ أَنْشُدُ اللَّهَ مِنْكُمْ رَجُلًا سَمِعَ ذَلِكَ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِلَّا شَهِدَ لِي بِهِ قَالَ فَرَفَعْتُ رَأْسِي فَقُلْتُ أَخْبِرْهُ أَنِّي مَعَكَ عَلَى هَذَا وَقَالَ ذَاكَ آخَرُونَ فَسُرِّيَ عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى – إسناده صحيح

Saʿīd b. al-Rabīʿ > Shuʿbah > Muḥammad b. al-Munkadir > Jābir b. ʿAbdullāh

I came to the messenger of Allah ﷺ and knocked on his door. He asked, "Who is it?" and I replied, "It is me." He questioned, "Me? Me?" and disliked that. – Sound Chain

أَخْبَرَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُنْكَدِرِ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ

أَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَضَرَبْتُ بَابَهُ فَقَالَ «مَنْ ذَا؟» فَقُلْتُ أَنَا فقَالَ «أَنَا؟ أَنَا؟» فَكَرِهَ ذَاكَ – إسناده صحيح

Muḥammad b. Yūsuf > Sufyān > Muḥārib b. Dithār > Jābir b. ʿAbdullāh

The Prophet ﷺ forbade a man from visiting his family at night or spying on them, or seeking their faults. Sufyan said regarding his statement "or seeking their faults", I do not know the meaning of this, it was said by Muharib or something that is in the Hadith.

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ مُحَارِبَ بْنَ دِثَارٍ يَذْكُرُ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ

«نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَنْ يَطْرُقَ الرَّجُلُ أَهْلَهُ لَيْلًا أَوْ يُخَوِّنَهُمْ أَوْ يَلْتَمِسَ عَثَرَاتِهِمْ» قَالَ سُفْيَانُ قَوْلُهُ أَوْ يُخَوِّنَهُمْ أَوْ يَلْتَمِسَ عَثَرَاتِهِمْ مَا أَدْرِي شَيْءٌ قَالَهُ مُحَارِبٌ أَوْ شَيْءٌ هُوَ فِي الْحَدِيثِ

Saʿīd b. ʿĀmir > ʿAwf > Zurārah b. Awfá > ʿAbdullāh b. Salām

When the Prophet ﷺ arrived in Medina, the people gathered around and said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ has arrived." I went out among those who went out, and when I saw his face, I recognized that his face is not the face of a liar. The first thing I heard him say was, "O people, spread peace, feed the hungry, maintain family ties, and pray while the people are asleep. You shall enter Paradise in peace." – Sound Chain

أَخْبَرَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ عَنْ عَوْفٍ عَنْ زُرَارَةَ بْنِ أَوْفَى عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سَلَامٍ قَالَ

لَمَّا قَدِمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ الْمَدِينَةَ اسْتَشْرَفَهُ النَّاسُ فَقَالُوا قَدِمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ فَخَرَجْتُ فِيمَنْ خَرَجَ فَلَمَّا رَأَيْتُ وَجْهَهُ عَرَفْتُ أَنَّ وَجْهَهُ لَيْسَ بِوَجْهِ كَذَّابٍ فَكَانَ أَوَّلَ مَا سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ «يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ أَفْشُوا السَّلَامَ وَأَطْعِمُوا الطَّعَامَ وَصِلُوا الْأَرْحَامَ وَصَلُّوا وَالنَّاسُ نِيَامٌ تَدْخُلُوا الْجَنَّةَ بِسَلَامٍ» – إسناده صحيح

ʿUbaydullāh > Isrāʾīl > Abū Isḥāq > al-Ḥārith > ʿAlī

“The Muslim has the right to six acts of kindness from his fellow Muslim: he should greet him with salam when he meets him; he should say ‘Yarhamukallah (may Allah have mercy on you) when he sneezes; he should visit him when he is sick; he should respond to him when he invites him; he should attend his funeral when he dies, he should love for him what he loves for himself; and he should be sincere towards him when he is not present.ʿ It was narrated from Abu Ishaq from al-Harith... and he narrated a similar report with the same isnad. – Good Chain

أَخْبَرَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ عَنْ إِسْرَائِيلَ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ الْحَارِثِ عَنْ عَلِيٍّ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لِلْمُسْلِمِ عَلَى الْمُسْلِمِ سِتٌّ يُسَلِّمُ عَلَيْهِ إِذَا لَقِيَهُ وَيُشَمِّتُهُ إِذَا عَطَسَ وَيَعُودُهُ إِذَا مَرِضَ وَيُجِيبُهُ إِذَا دَعَاهُ وَيَشْهَدُهُ إِذَا تُوُفِّيَ وَيُحِبُّ لَهُ مَا يُحِبُّ لِنَفْسِهِ وَيَنْصَحُ لَهُ بِالْغَيْبِ – إسناده حسن

ʿAbdullāh b. Yazīd > Ḥaywah > Abū Hāniʾ al-Khawlānī > Abū ʿAlī al-Janbī > Faḍālah b. ʿUbayd

that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The horseman gives Salam to the walking person, the walking person to the one standing and the few to the many." – Sound Chain

أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يَزِيدَ حَدَّثَنَا حَيْوَةُ أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو هَانِئٍ الْخَوْلَانِيُّ

أَنَّ أَبَا عَلِيٍّ الْجَنْبِيَّ حَدَّثَهُ عَنْ فَضَالَةَ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ «يُسَلِّمُ الرَّاكِبُ عَلَى الْمَاشِي وَالْقَائِمُ عَلَى الْقَاعِدِ وَالْقَلِيلُ عَلَى الْكَثِيرِ» – إسناده صحيح

Khālid b. Makhlad > Mālik > ʿAbdullāh b. Dīnār > Ibn ʿUmar

That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Indeed when a Jew gives Salam to one of you, then he is only saying: 'As-Samu 'Alaikum' (Death be upon you) so say: "Alaik (And upon you).'" – Strong Chain

أَخْبَرَنَا خَالِدُ بْنُ مَخْلَدٍ حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكٌ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِنَّ الْيَهُودَ إِذَا سَلَّمَ أَحَدُهُمْ فَإِنَّمَا يَقُولُ السَّامُ عَلَيْكَ قُلْ عَلَيْكَ – إسناده قوي

Sahl b. Ḥammād > Shuʿbah > Sayyār

I was walking with Thibit al-Bunani that he happened to pass by children and he greeted them. And Thibit reported that he walked with Anas and he happened to pass by children and he greeted them. and Anas reported that he walked with Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon. him) and he happened, to pass by children and he greeted them. – Sound Chain

حَدَّثَنَا سَهْلُ بْنُ حَمَّادٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ سَيَّارٍ قَالَ

كُنْتُ أَمْشِي مَعَ ثَابِتٍ الْبُنَانِيِّ فَمَرَّ بِصِبْيَانٍ فَسَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِمْ وَحَدَّثَ ثَابِتٌ أَنَّهُ كَانَ مَعَ أَنَسٍ فَمَرَّ بِصِبْيَانٍ فَسَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِمْ وَحَدَّثَ أَنَسٌ أَنَّهُ «كَانَ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَمَرَّ بِصِبْيَانٍ فَسَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِمْ» – إسناده صحيح

al-Ḥakam b. Nāfiʿ > Shuʿayb b. Abū Ḥamzah > Ibn Abū Ḥusayn > Shahr > Asmāʾ b. Yazīd b. al-Sakan Iḥdá Nisāʾ Banī ʿAbd al-Ashhal

She was among a group of women that the Prophet ﷺ passed by and greeted. – Good Chain

أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَكَمُ بْنُ نَافِعٍ عَنْ شُعَيْبِ بْنِ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ عَنْ ابْنِ أَبِي حُسَيْنٍ حَدَّثَنِي شَهْرٌ عَنْ أَسْمَاءَ بِنْتِ يَزِيدَ بْنِ السَّكَنِ إِحْدَى نِسَاءِ بَنِي عَبْدِ الْأَشْهَلِ

أَنَّهَا بَيْنَا هِيَ فِي نِسْوَةٍ مَرَّ عَلَيْهِنَّ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «فَسَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِنَّ» – إسناده حسن

al-Ḥakam b. Nāfiʿ > Shuʿayb b. Abū Ḥamzah > al-Zuhrī > Abū Salamah b. ʿAbd al-Raḥman

'A'isha, here is Gabriel offering you greetings. She said: 1 made a reply: Let there be peace and blessings of Allah upon him, and added: He sees what I do not see. – Sound Chain

أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَكَمُ بْنُ نَافِعٍ عَنْ شُعَيْبِ بْنِ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو سَلَمَةَ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ

أَنَّ عَائِشَةَ زَوْجَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَتْ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «يَا عَائِشُ هَذَا جِبْرِيلُ يَقْرَأُ عَلَيْكِ السَّلَامَ» قَالَتْ وَعَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ قَالَتْ وَهُوَ يَرَى مَا لَا أَرَى – إسناده صحيح

ʿAbdullāh b. Maslamah > Sulaymān > Ibn al-Mughīrah > Ḥumayd b. Hilāl > ʿAbdullāh b. al-Ṣāmit > Abū Dhar

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ prayed, and I came to him after he finished his prayer. I was the first to greet him with the greeting of Islam. He said, "Peace and mercy of Allah be upon you. Who are you?" I said, "I am from the tribe of Ghifar." He took hold of my hand and I thought to myself that I disliked being affiliated with Ghifar. – Sound Chain

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ هُوَ ابْنُ الْمُغِيرَةِ عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ هِلَالٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الصَّامِتِ عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ قَالَ

صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَأَتَيْتُهُ حِينَ قَضَى صَلَاتَهُ فَكُنْتُ أَوَّلَ مَنْ حَيَّا بِتَحِيَّةِ الْإِسْلَامِ قَالَ «عَلَيْكَ السَّلَامُ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ مِمَّنْ أَنْتَ؟» قَالَ قُلْتُ مِنْ غِفَارٍ قَالَ فَأَهْوَى بِيَدِهِ قُلْتُ فِي نَفْسِي كَرِهَ أَنِّي انْتَمَيْتُ إِلَى غِفَارٍ – إسناده صحيح

Muḥammad b. Kathīr > Jaʿfar b. Sulaymān > ʿAwf > Abū Rajāʾ > ʿImrān b. Ḥuṣayn

A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: Peace be upon you! He responded to his salutation. He then sat down. The Prophet ﷺ said: Ten. Another man came and said: Peace and Allah's mercy be upon you! He responded to his salutation when he sat down. He said: Twenty. Another man came and said: Peace and Allah's mercy and blessings be upon you! He responded to him and said when he sat down: and blessings be upon you! He responded to him and said when he sat down: Thirty. – Sound Chain

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ حَدَّثَنَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ عَنْ عَوْفٍ عَنْ أَبِي رَجَاءٍ عَنْ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ حُصَيْنٍ قَالَ

جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ فَرَدَّ عَلَيْهِ وَقَالَ «عَشْرٌ» ثُمَّ جَاءَ رَجُلٌ فَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ فَرَدَّ عَلَيْهِ فََقَالَ «عِشْرُونَ» ثُمَّ جَاءَ رَجُلٌ فَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ فَرَدَّ عَلَيْهِ وَقَالَ «ثَلَاثُونَ» – إسناده صحيح

Isḥāq > Muʿādh b. Hishām from my father > Qatādah > al-Ḥasan > al-Ḥuḍayn > al-Muhājir b. Qunfudh

It was narrated from Al-Muhajir bin Qunfudh that he greeted the Prophet ﷺ with Salam while he was urinating, and he did not return the greeting until he had performed Wudu'. When he had performed Wudu' he returned the greeting. – Sound Chain

أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْحَاقُ حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ الْحُضَيْنِ عَنْ الْمُهَاجِرِ بْنِ قُنْفُذٍ

أَنَّهُ «سَلَّمَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَهُوَ يَبُولُ فَلَمْ يَرُدَّ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامَ حَتَّى تَوَضَّأَ فَلَمَّا تَوَضَّأَ رَدَّهُ عَلَيْهِ» – إسناده صحيح

Yaḥyá b. Bisṭām > Layth b. Saʿd > Yazīd b. Abū Ḥabīb > Abū al-Khayr > ʿUqbah b. ʿĀmir

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do not enter upon women." It was said, "O Messenger of Allah, not even the daughter-in-law?" He said, "The daughter-in-law is death." Yahya said, "He means the proximity of the husband."

أَخْبَرَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ بِسْطَامَ حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ عَنْ أَبِي الْخَيْرِ عَنْ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «لَا تَدْخُلُوا عَلَى النِّسَاءِ» قِيلَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِلَّا الْحَمْوُ قَالَ الْحَمْوُ الْمَوْتُ قَالَ يَحْيَى الْحَمْوُ يَعْنِي قَرَابَةَ الزَّوْجِ

Muḥammad b. Yūsuf And ʾAbūnuʿaym > Sufyān > Yūnus > ʿAmr b. Saʿīd > Abū Zurʿah b. ʿAmr b. Jarīr > Jarīr

Jarir said I asked the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ about an accidental glance (on a woman). He ﷺ said “Turn your eyes away.” – Sound Chain

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ وَأَبُونُعَيْمٍ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ عَنْ يُونُسَ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ أَبِي زُرْعَةَ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ جَرِيرٍ عَنْ جَرِيرٍ قَالَ

سَأَلْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ عَنْ نَظْرَةِ الْفَجْأَةِ؟ فَقَالَ «اصْرِفْ بَصَرَكَ» – إسناده صحيح

Aḥmad b. Khālid > Muḥammad > Ibn Isḥāq > Nāfiʿ > Ṣafiyyah b. Abū ʿUbayd

About Umm Salama, the wife of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ , she said that the Prophet ﷺ was asked about the length of a woman's dress. He replied, "It should be a hand-span." So, I asked, "O Messenger of Allah, then will their feet be exposed?" He said, "No, it should hang below that." Abdullah Al-Nas said that people said this hadith was narrated by Nafi' from Sulaiman bin Yasar. – Weak Chain

أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ هُوَ ابْنُ إِسْحاَقَ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنْ صَفِيَّةَ بِنْتِ أَبِي عُبَيْدٍ

عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَتْ سُئِلَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ عَنْ ذَيْلِ الْمَرْأَةِ فَقَالَ «شِبْرًا» فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِذَنْ تَبْدُوَ أَقْدَامُهُنَّ؟ قَالَ «قَدْرَ ذِرَاعٍ لَا يَزِدْنَ عَلَيْهِ» قَالَ عَبْد اللَّهِ النَّاسُ يَقُولُونَ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ يَسَارٍ – إسناده ضعيف

Muḥammad b. Yūsuf > Sufyān > Manṣūr > Ribʿī b. Ḥirāsh > Āmraʾatih > Ukht Liḥudhayfah

"The Messenger of Allah [SAW] addressed us and said: 'O women, do you not have any silver to wear for adornment? For there is no woman among you who wears gold and shows it, but she will be punished because of it.'" – Weak Chain

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ حَدَّثَنِي رِبْعِيُّ بْنُ حِرَاشٍ عَنْ امْرَأَتِهِ عَنْ أُخْتٍ لِحُذَيْفَةَ قَالَتْ

خَطَبَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ «يَا مَعْشَرَ النِّسَاءِ أَمَا لَكُنَّ فِي الْفِضَّةِ مَا تَحَلَّيْنَ بِهِ؟ أَمَا إِنَّهُ لَيْسَتْ مِنْكُنَّ امْرَأَةٌ تَحَلَّى الذَّهَبَ فَتُظْهِرَهُ إِلَّا عُذِّبَتْ بِهِ» – إسناده ضعيف

Abū ʿĀṣim > Thābit b. ʿUmārah > Ghunaym b. Qays

"From Abu Musa: 'Any woman who perfumes herself and then goes out to be detected by her scent, she is an adulteress, and every eye is adulterous.' And Abu Asim said: 'Some of our companions narrates this hadith with raising it.'" – Sound Chain

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ عَنْ ثَابِتِ بْنِ عُمَارَةَ عَنْ غُنَيْمِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ

عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى «أَيُّمَا امْرَأَةٍ اسْتَعْطَرَتْ ثُمَّ خَرَجَتْ لِيُوجَدَ رِيحُهَا فَهِيَ زَانِيَةٌ وَكُلُّ عَيْنٍ زَانِيَةٌ» وَقَالَ أَبُو عَاصِمٍ يَرْفَعُهُ بَعْضُ أَصْحَابِنَا – إسناده صحيح

Muḥammad b. Yūsuf > Sufyān > Manṣūr > Ibrāhīm > ʿAlqamah > ʿAbdullāh

ʿAbdullah (bin Masud) said. "Allah curses those ladies who practice tattooing and those who get themselves tattooed, and those ladies who remove the hair from their faces and those who make artificial spaces between their teeth in order to look more beautiful whereby they change Allah's creation." His saying reached a lady from Bani Asd called Um Yaqub who came (to ʿAbdullah) and said, "I have come to know that you have cursed such-and-such (ladies)?" He replied, "Why should I not curse these whom Messenger of Allah ﷺ has cursed and who are (cursed) in Allah's Book!" Um Yaqub said, "I have read the whole Qur'an, but I did not find in it what you say." He said, "Verily, if you have read it (i.e. the Qur'an), you have found it. Didn't you read: 'And whatsoever the Apostle gives you take it and whatsoever he forbids you, you abstain (from it). (59.7) She replied, "Yes, I did," He said, "Verily, Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade such things." "She said, "But I see your wife doing these things?" He said, "Go and watch her." She went and watched her but could not see anything in support of her statement. On that he said, "If my wife was as you thought, I would not keep her in my company." – Sound Chain

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ

«لَعَنَ اللَّهُ الْوَاشِمَاتِ وَالْمُسْتَوْشِمَاتِ وَالْمُتَنَمِّصَاتِ وَالْمُتَفَلِّجَاتِ لِلْحُسْنِ الْمُغَيِّرَاتِ خَلْقَ اللَّهِ» فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ امْرَأَةً مِنْ بَنِي أَسَدٍ يُقَالُ لَهَا أُمُّ يَعْقُوبَ فَجَاءَتْ فَقَالَتْ بَلَغَنِي أَنَّكَ لَعَنْتَ كَيْتَ وَكَيْتَ؟ فَقَالَ وَمَا لِي لَا أَلْعَنُ مَنْ لَعَنَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَهُوَ فِي كِتَابِ اللَّهِ؟ فَقَالَتْ لَقَدْ قَرَأْتُ مَا بَيْنَ اللَّوْحَيْنِ فَمَا وَجَدْتُ فِيهِ مَا تَقُولُ قَالَ لَئِنْ كُنْتِ قَرَأْتِيهِ لَقَدْ وَجَدْتِيهِ أَمَا قَرَأْتِ {مَا آتَاكُمُ الرَّسُولُ فَخُذُوهُ وَمَا نَهَاكُمْ عَنْهُ فَانْتَهُوا وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ شَدِيدُ الْعِقَابِ} [الحشر 7]؟ فَقَالَتْ بَلَى قَالَ فَإِنَّهُ قَدْ نَهَى عَنْهُ فَقَالَتْ فَإِنِّي أَرَى أَهْلَكَ يَفْعَلُونَهُ؟ قَالَ فَادْخُلِي فَانْظُرِي فَدَخَلَتْ فَنَظَرَتْ فَلَمْ تَرَ مِنْ حَاجَتِهَا شَيْئًا فَقَالَ لَوْ كَانَتْ كَذَلِكِ مَا جَامَعْتُهَا – إسناده صحيح

ʿUthmān b. Muḥammad > Zayd b. Ḥubāb > Yaḥyá b. Ayyūb al-Ḥaḍramī > ʿAyyāsh b. ʿAbbās al-Ḥimyarī > Abū al-Ḥuṣayn al-Ḥajrī > Abū ʿĀmir

I heard Abu Rayhana, the companion of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , saying, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to forbid ten things: mutual rubbing between two men in one garment without anything between them, mutual rubbing between two women in one garment without anything between them, plucking the hair, tattooing, shaving the head partially, riding on wild lions, and taking one's slave as a wife using the thighs. Abdullah Abu 'Amir, their sheikh, said, 'Mutual rubbing refers to sexual intercourse.'" – Weak Chain

أَخْبَرَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ حَدَّثَنَا زَيْدُ بْنُ حُبَابِ حَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى بْنُ أَيُّوبَ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ أَخْبَرَنِي عَيَّاشُ بْنُ عَبَّاسٍ الْحِمْيَرِيُّ عَنْ أَبِي الْحُصَيْنِ الْحَجْرِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَامِرٍ قَالَ

سَمِعْتُ أَبَا رَيْحَانَةَ صَاحِبَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَنْهَى عَنْ عَشْرِ خِصَالٍ مُكَامَعَةِ الرَّجُلِ الرَّجُلَ فِي شِعَارٍ لَيْسَ بَيْنَهُمَا شَيْءٌ وَمُكَامَعَةِ الْمَرْأَةِ الْمَرْأَةَ فِي شِعَارٍ وَاحِدٍ لَيْسَ بَيْنَهُمَا شَيْءٌ وَالنَّتْفِ وَالْوَشْمِ وَالنُّهْبَةِ وَرُكُوبِ النُّمُورِ وَاتِّخَاذِ الدِّيبَاجِ هَا هُنَا عَلَى الْعَاتِقَيْنِ وَفِي أَسْفَلِ الثِّيَابِ قَالَ عَبْد اللَّهِ أَبُو عَامِرٍ شَيْخٌ لَهُمْ وَالْمُكَامَعَةُ الْمُضَاجَعَةُ – إسناده ضعيف

Yazīd b. Hārūn And Wahb b. Jarīr > Hishām al-Dastuwāʾī > Yaḥyá > ʿIkrimah > Ibn ʿAbbās

"Indeed, the Prophet ﷺ cursed effeminate men among the men and masculinized women among the women and said, 'Expel them from your homes.' The Prophet ﷺ expelled certain individuals and `Umar expelled others.' Abdullah said, 'I am uncertain.'" – Sound Chain

أَخْبَرَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ وَوَهْبُ بْنُ جَرِيرٍ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ الدَّسْتُوَائِيُّ عَنْ يَحْيَى عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ لَعَنَ الْمُخَنَّثِينَ مِنَ الرِّجَالِ وَالْمُتَرَجِّلَاتِ مِنَ النِّسَاءِ وَقَالَ «أَخْرِجُوهُمْ مِنْ بُيُوتِكُمْ» قَالَ «فَأَخْرَجَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فُلَانًا وَأَخْرَجَ عُمَرُ فُلَانًا أَوْ فُلَانَةَ» قَالَ عَبْد اللَّهِ «فَأَشُكُّ» – إسناده صحيح

al-Ḥakam b. al-Mubārak > Mālik > Abū al-Naḍr > Zurʿah b. ʿAbd al-Raḥman

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sat with us and my thigh was exposed, so he said, "Cover your thigh, for surely the thigh is an 'awrah." – Fair Chain

أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَكَمُ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ أَنْبَأَنَا مَالِكٌ عَنْ أَبِي النَّضْرِ عَنْ زُرْعَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ وَكَانَ مِن أَصْحَابِ الصُّفَّةِ قَالَ

جَلَسَ عِنْدَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَفَخِذِي مُنْكَشِفَةٌ فَقَالَ «خَمِّرْ عَلَيْكَ أَمَا عَلِمْتَ أَنَّ الْفَخِذَ عَوْرَةٌ» – إسناده جيد

Yaʿlá > al-Aʿmash > ʿAmr b. Murrah > Sālim b. Abū al-Jaʿd

"Perhaps you are among those (women) who enter bathhouses? I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: 'Any woman who takes off her clothes anywhere but in her husband's house, has torn the screen between her and Allah.'" – Sound

أَخْبَرَنَا يَعْلَى حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُرَّةَ عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ قَالَ

دَخَلَ عَلَى عَائِشَةَ نِسْوَةٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ حِمْصٍ يَسْتَفْتِينَهَا فَقَالَتْ لَعَلَّكُنَّ مِنَ النِّسْوَةِ اللَّاتِي يَدْخُلْنَ الْحَمَّامَاتِ؟ قُلْنَ نَعَمْ قَالَتْ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «مَا مِنَ امْرَأَةٍ تَضَعُ ثِيَابَهَا فِي غَيْرِ بَيْتِ زَوْجِهَا إِلَّا هَتَكَتْ مَا بَيْنَهَا وَبَيْنَ اللَّهِ ﷻ» – صحيح

قَالَ أَبُو مُحَمَّد أَخْبَرَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ عَنْ إِسْرَائِيلَ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ عَنْ سَالِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي الْمَلِيحِ

عَنْ عَائِشَةَ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ – إسناده صحيح

Musaddad > Bishr b. al-Mufaḍḍal > ʿUbaydullāh > Nāfiʿ > Ibn ʿUmar

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "A person should not push his brother out of his place and then sit in it, rather you should make room and expand."

أَخْبَرَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ الْمُفَضَّلِ حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لَا يُقِيمُ الرَّجُلُ يَعْنِي أَخَاهُ مِنْ مَجْلِسِهِ ثُمَّ يَقْعُدُ فِيهِ وَلَكِنْ تَفَسَّحُوا وَتَوَسَّعُوا

Aḥmad b. ʿAbdullāh > Zuhayr > Suhayl from his father > Abū Hurayrah

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "If one of you stands up or a man from his gathering and then returns to it, he has more right to it." – Sound Chain

حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ حَدَّثَنَا سُهَيْلٌ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «إِذَا قَامَ أَحَدُكُمْ أَوِ الرَّجُلُ مِنْ مَجْلِسِهِ ثُمَّ رَجَعَ إِلَيْهِ فَهُوَ أَحَقُّ بِهِ» – إسناده صحيح

Abū al-Walīd al-Ṭayālisī > Shuʿbah > Abū Isḥāq > al-Barāʾ

"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by a group of sitting Ansar (companions from Al-Madinah) and said, 'If you are unwilling to do anything, then guide people towards the right path, spread peace, and assist the oppressed.' Shu'bah said, 'Abu Ishaq did not hear this narration from Al-Bara'.' – Sound

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ الْبَرَاءِ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَرَّ بِنَاسٍ جُلُوسٍ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ فَقَالَ «إِنْ كُنْتُمْ لَا بُدَّ فَاعِلِينَ فَاهْدُوا السَّبِيلَ وَأَفْشُوا السَّلَامَ وَأَعِينُوا الْمَظْلُومَ» قَالَ شُعْبَةُ «لَمْ يَسْمَعْ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ مِنَ الْبَرَاءِ» – صحيح

Muḥammad b. Aḥmad b. Abū Khalaf > Sufyān > al-Zuhrī > ʿAbbād b. Tamīm > ʿAmmih

'Abbad b. Tamim reported from his uncle that he saw Messenger of Allah ﷺ lying in the mosque and placing his one foot upon the other. – Sound Chain

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي خَلَفٍ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ الزُّهْرِيَّ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ عَبَّادِ بْنِ تَمِيمٍ عَنْ عَمِّهِ قَالَ

رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ «مُسْتَلْقِيًا فِي الْمَسْجِدِ وَاضِعًا إِحْدَى رِجْلَيْهِ عَلَى الْأُخْرَى» – إسناده صحيح

ʿUbaydullāh b. Mūsá > al-Aʿmash > Abū Wāʾil > ʿAbdullāh

"When you are three, two should not converse (privately) to the exclusion of their companion, because that makes him sad." – Sound Chain

أَخْبَرَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُوسَى عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «إِذَا كُنْتُمْ ثَلَاثَةً فَلَا يَتَنَاجَى اثْنَانِ دُونَ صَاحِبِهِمَا فَإِنَّ ذَلِكَ يُحْزِنُهُ» – إسناده صحيح

Yaʿlá b. ʿUbayd > Ḥajjāj / Ibn Dīnār > Abū Hāshim > Rufayʿ Abū al-ʿĀliyah > Abū Barzah al-Aslamī

When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ intended to get up from the assembly he used to say in the last. Glory be to Thee. O Allah, and I begin with praise of Thee, I testify that there is no god but Thou; I ask Thy pardon, and return to Thee in repentance. The man asked: Messenger of Allah! you utter the words now which you did not do in the past? He replied: (This is an) atonement for what takes place in the assembly. – Sound Chain

حَدَّثَنَا يَعْلَى بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ دِينَارٍ عَنْ أَبِي هَاشِمٍ عَنْ رُفَيْعٍ أَبِي الْعَالِيَةِ عَنْ أَبِي بَرْزَةَ الْأَسْلَمِيِّ قَالَ

لَمَّا كَانَ بِأَخَرَةٍ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِذَا جَلَسَ فِي الْمَجْلِسِ فَأَرَادَ أَنْ يَقُومَ قَالَ «سُبْحَانَكَ اللَّهُمَّ وَبِحَمْدِكَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ أَسْتَغْفِرُكَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْكَ» فَقَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّكَ لَتَقُولُ الْآنَ كَلَامًا مَا كُنْتَ تَقُولُهُ فِيمَا خَلَا فَقَالَ «هَذَا كَفَّارَةٌ لِمَا يَكُونُ فِي الْمَجَالِسِ» – إسناده صحيح
